Beginner questions (which I'm sure you've all seen/answered before) (long post warning)

So I'm just starting to get into archery. I've had a few lessons at a range (originally a Christmas present) and so far I've shot a longbow, barebow and compound, with one more on the Olympic recurve soon.

Archery is definitely something I'd love to keep doing. So far I've been able to get most of my shots inside the gold at 10 or 12 metres.

My preferred method of shooting is barebow. I like that it's more traditional, which I guess is because as a kid I loved Robin Hood (still do tbh) and things like that, and I also prefer aiming by 'feel' rather than using a sight.

So here are my questions (I'll also be asking the coaches at the range the same things).

BOW: the bow I'm looking at for now is the Samick sage. It's the equal cheapest at my range, and the look fits with the traditional feel I'm going for. I've seen heaps of people say this is a great beginner bow, with hardly any negatives. The other option in the same price range is the galaxy aspire, but that had a magnesium riser which I've read isn't as good.

ARROWS: the cheapest ones (like Aeros, which are what I've been using so far) are $5AUD each. As I'd only be shooting at targets, I assume these would be fine. I'll be building my set up on a budget, and obviously you get what you pay for, but I'm wondering whether it would be worth going for sightly more expensive arrows.

SHOOTING: To start with I'd only shoot at the range (18 metres indoors) but was wondering whether it's legal to shoot in my backyard? I'm not sure about the law in Australia, but I assume it would be the same in most countries.

ACCESSORIES: Finally, things like armguards, firing gloves/finger tabs and quivers. I do like working with my hands and making models/painting, and was hoping some people here face any experience in making their own? Especially a quiver, I'd love to make and design by own, but I'm not sure what material it would have to be to securely store my arrows.

Anyway, thanks for reading my dissertation, and thank you in advance for any answers you can help me with (even if it's only one!)

I've loved every minute of my archery so far, and having my own personal set up is something I'd really love to build up to.

Happy shooting!

Shibuya vs Axcel vs other top end sights?

So my budget has increased and i decided i'm going for a top-level sight for the target style recurve i'm building. It seems that Shibuya and Axcel are the top end, so for anyone who has experience with either one of them, or preferably both, could you tell me the differences, pros and cons, and which one is the best value? i'm planning on buying the most expensive, so the Axcel Achieve XP - Recurve or the Shibuya Ultima RC PRO Carbon Sight . If there's any other top end sights you think are better, let me know. I want this to be the first and last sight that i ever buy, and price doesn't really matter. Another question, on the Shibuya there's an option for "Single mount" and "Double mount." What do those mean? And lastly, is the sight aperture on either of the sights suitable, or is there better after-market apertures that are better? I'm sort of thinking that is something I should be buying from my local shop so i can actually te...

Is there any reason mediterranean and slavic draw shoot from opposite sides of the bow

When the release imparts the same twist on the string? It was my understanding that mediterranean draw has the arrow on the side opposite of the bow of the draw hand because of the twist imparted on the string affecting the arrow on release but that should mean that slavic draw would suffer from that problem. Am I missing something with this? Shouldn't that mean you could use a mediterranean draw on the same side of the bow as the draw hand and not have issues? Are my new arrows overspined?

Are 400 spine, 27" arrows overspined for 30 pound draw weight? The guy just picked the arrows, cut them and gave them to me. my old arrows were 500 spine, 32" so when I said that they looked overspined, he just shrugged and said "the chart says they're ok". Can anyone confirm my doubts? submitted by /u/Astaziel [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3pmjVLf via
