I decided to get a recurve at the start of the pandemic to give me something new to do while working from home. Today I got my first traditional kill - I’m feeling good about the deer archery season opening tomorrow.

Which Clicker to use?

Hi everyone, barebow recurve shooter here. I switched over from compound a while ago and found I still have target panic so I’ve been thinking of moving to using a clicker. Does anyone have experience with the Handy Clicker? I’ve been thinking of getting one of those but I’ve seen more people using the draw check or rest mounted ones. Looking for a Traditional Horse Bow

Has anyone here ever ordered anything from Hunting door.com? I am wanting to get into archery as a hobby, so I am looking for a decent entry level traditional bow. The website has a few, the one I'm looking at costs around 100 dollars. Is this a good price/decent quality, or will it just be cheap and bad quality. submitted by /u/twister428 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/30kmxh9 via

Need some help modernizing my vintage bow

So years ago as a teenager, I took up archery and ended up buying a vintage browning Compound nomad. It came with the original sight broke so I ended up replacing it with a more modern shrouded pin sight bit never could get it to shoot properly afterwards. Lately, I’ve been itching to play with it again, and have been reading around about ways to modernize it. First off, it appears I’ve been using the sights wrong all these years. Apparently I need to install a peep in the string to utilize the pin sights, is this the case? Secondly, the bow came with a plunger style arrow rest with a stick on wire bit to locate the arrow on the riser. I would like to switch to something more modern like a whisker biscuit. Is this something that can be done? submitted by /u/crashedmyroflcopter [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3jeyqN2 via

First Bow

Looking at going to buy my first compound bow this weekend. I’m not sure if I should get a more basic starter bow or if I should just splurge a little and get something that I will be able to grow into as a archer. I’m hoping to get opinions/suggestions from some people with more experience with bows than myself. Crossbow shots grouping left before and after adjustment’s need advice..

So just picked up a brand new Tenpoint crossbow yesterday, first year ive gotten into crossbow hunting always have used compound’s. Well i picked up some arrows today 3 of the same, and a family member grabbed me 2 as well but they were different to these. Went to sight in my bow at around the 25 yrd mark and my first 3 shots were all 5-6 inches left of center, perfect height. Adjusted my scope to move it right then 3 more shots, same exact placement to the left. I shot both of my different arrows to see if one was flying wrong and they both were grouping together. Any idea’s what may be my issue? Slight leaning when shooting or something i could have did incorrectly? Also to note my scope says 1/2 inch at 100 yards. First adjustment i moved it about 3 clicks to the right, it didnt move the arrow grouping, so i did like 7-8 more clicks and exact same grouping location 5-6 inches right. Thanks for any advice. submitted by /u/Mastacombs [link] [comments] from newest submissi

Daughter interested in getting her first bow, recommendations?

My 10 year old recently took a community rec class on archery and was able to shoot both a recurve and compound bow, and she really enjoyed the sport! She decided she would prefer a recurve bow because the compound bow was "too easy" according to her. The recurve she used was a Bear brand, but I don't know the model. Looking for recommendations on the model, I'll go to a local shop for getting an appropriate fit and such but trying to get some advice to narrow it down and not just get what the shop prefers but what the community recommends for a 10 year old. This would be for target practice only and probably no more than 20 yards, not looking to break the bank but I'm willing to pay for value. Any advice is appreciated. submitted by /u/yunus89115 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3jfXmDO via

Problem with trigger finger condition when it gets cold, any advice.

One of the guys at our club has devloped trigger finger when it gets cold. This is where one of your fingers doesn't unhook on comand, so when he releases two fingers release and then a second later his other one will finaly decide to. Obviously this is messing up his shooting, anyone here got advice for dealing with this? submitted by /u/Azaana [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3kVOm7e via

I'm putting together a IFL bow to use at a club and for eventual competition shooting, I have a few questions:

I am looking at the Samick Ideal riser which is $275 in my country. Limbs I haven't decided on, but I'm open to anything of equal quality, same with the string and arrows. My local archery store is able to build the bow for me and sort out any custom specification related things. I intend on shooting instinctively for the first while anyway so sights and stabilizers aren't an immediate issue. My question is how far will the Samick Ideal and similar limbs get me in terms of holding up as a quality bow? Will it sustain me for multiple years or will I feel the need to purchase something of higher quality due to shortcomings once I get to a stage where I'm able to shoot competitively? I did an archery beginner's course a few years back and loved it so much. I'm going to be joining a club soon and I intend on making archery a major hobby in the coming years. I am definitely a beginner but I have some experience shooting. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks m

Any idea how to use this bow stringer? All the videos I’ve seen look very different from this one.

Why are my shots going high?

I recently got a traditional longbow and have been attempting to teach myself how to shoot. My current major issue is my shots are consistent, but they consistently go above and slightly left of the target I’m aiming at (I fire left handed). I’m not sure what’s causing this slip so any advice would be amazing. submitted by /u/Burning_Blades [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/34d0s52 via

Numbness/Pain in ring finger of the Drawhand

Hi, I have a Problem, but maybe somebody has got a good solution. I am shooting recurve since a little over a year now with approx. 500 Arrows per week, sometimes less sometimes more. I recently increased my bow-weight from 30 to 36. At the Same time I upgraded my string to one that’s marketed as a “highspeed”. I think some type of fast-flight Material, but they don’t specify that. After Shooting that now combo for a week or two I started to have a numbness in the tip of my ring finger. I went to an archery shop, where they told me that my tab was to small (width-wise). They sold me a new tab with cordovan leather and told me, that the numbness will stay a while because I damaged my nerves. A few weeks later the pain numbness was gone and I started shooting again. First two days (50 Arrows each) went fine. The Weekend after that we where at a 3D Parcour where I shot approx.. 100 Arrows. And my finger was hurt again. I again waited 3-4 Weeks for the numbness to go away, reduces

In dire need of advice

Hi all, I have been archering for under a year. I currently own a ~30-32# recurve (26# limbs on a shorter riser) and a 42# traditional longbow. I am currently looking at a new pair of limbs (45#) and a Striker Stinger longbow (the Grizzly Jim signature series) at 50#. Would you recommend left handed or right handed slaps in the face to stop buying f***ing bows and just practice with the ones I already have? submitted by /u/zolbear [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3kWvpRJ via

Another arrow question

Shooting a SW Spyder XL with 45# limbs, my draw length is 31” so more like ~50#. I’m aware this is a higher draw weight, I have shot at 30, 35, and 40# consistently. I’m planning to shoot these 31.5” (with tip) 500 grain carbon arrows with plastic fletchings (I have a rest, wont be shelf shooting). Thumb draw with a longbow?

I've started my archery journey with a short Turkish-style recurve, using thumb draw. Since I'm focusing on mounted archery, this has been a great fit. However, I'm getting curious about other types of traditional bows for archery on foot and have been looking at some longbows. With a plain longbow with no arrow rest, is there any reason I couldn't continue to shoot thumb draw? WA IB - fingernail “clicker” legal?

Hey :) I have a small notch at the front of my riser. There is nothing attached or anything, it’s just a build-in “edge”, there to place my fingernail in it. Newbie asking about spine choice

Ok for context, im new to archery. The idea of fetching my own arrows sounds fun, and while maybe its not super necessary I like doing things with my hands and wanted to try. I also wanted to make arrows that are quite distinguished looking as the place I shoot at, many people are using the same arrows and people take other's arrows.. purposefully or not. Yes I can write on it but I wanted a way to tell from a distance. I also want bright orange wraps for easy finding as sometimes the grass gets a smidge long. Local arxhery supply has a sale on some nice shafts but when choosing spine, i am not sure if I should be going 500 or 600. Charts say 600 but I'm worried it might be too much. Should I just trust it and try it out? Will it matter that much? I'm short, my draw is 24.5" with 30# bow that is 62inch long. Thanks in advance. Also with my draw, most pre-made arrows are quite long, if I cut them, would 26.5inch long be ok? Thanks submitted by /u/shyethegre

First ever Robin Hood! First day of shooting this year (long story) and I hit this shot from 60 yards (54.86 meters) To be honest, I’m happier at the fact that these weren’t my Easton Axis arrows than I am at hitting the shot!

approproiate draw weight for beginner to compound bows?

I'm a beginner to the world of archery, 21 year male. I'm a novice recurve bow archer, and have limited experience with a 35lb traditional bow. I'm looking to get a compound bow for target shooting and hunting. I've found a few people selling some great used bows, and have found a 2017 PSE Drive R for an absolute bargain. However, this bows lowest draw weight is 50lbs. Would you guys say this is okay? Please help me choose my first ILF Barebow setup

I’ve been shooting a #25 Southwest Spyder for a while and want to step up to a Barebow ILF setup. I have a 28” draw length and will be shooting 20 yard indoor targets (like the Lancaster Archery Classic). Currently 3 under gap aiming but want to try string walking (or just tuning the bow to be point on at 20 yards). I’m eyeing the 25” Gillo G2K as the riser (I’m open to other riser recommendations though). What limbs would go well with that riser? I’m looking to get medium limbs at #28 or #30. How hard is it to break a bow?

Obviously breaking a bow is not something we want to happen, but I’m writing a book and there’s a scene where my main character finds her bow broken (currently it’s a hoyt riser but that can change). The breaking happens off screen and is done by someone else to sabotage her. What would it take to break the bow? Especially by someone who doesn’t do archery and is a girl about 5’ or so tall, not really athletic. I don’t want to try breaking my own bow to see how hard it is (pse takedown), so I’m wondering if anyone else has any ideas on how it could be done? submitted by /u/taigirl87 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3kN6YpK via

Is it worth upgrading from a fibreglass to a similar style and weight laminated bow?

So I’ve been shooting a ghengis khan bow from alibow for over a year now, and I really enjoy it. I was considering upgrading to a kheshig , from the same company. The internet seems to love this bow. I’m wondering how different of an experience I’ll really have, though. If they’re similar draw weights, and similar styles (both Mongolian), is it going to be so much nicer to shoot that it justifies being three times the price? Or will it just be a minor incremental change that I wouldn’t have noticed if I wasn’t looking for it? I’d love to hear other people’s experience with this, especially if you have experience with either of those bows, or ones comparable. submitted by /u/Petti-fog [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3n6MJ8K via

New to Reddit as a whole and hopefully will be new to archery as well! Questions.

So the idea of archery has always intrigued me but I've never got around to picking it up. Recently however I've found myself inching closer and closer to taking up the sport (basically at the point where I'm ready to make a purchase(s). Let me start by saying that I'm also a 26yr old male, so probably should have picked it up sooner lmao... anyway. I wanted to know where someone at my age should start? I've tried googling "archery for beginners" but most if not all the links that pop up are "archery for kids" and things of that nature. I'm willing to learn from all areas (as you should with anything) books, tutorial videos, hands on experience(obvs) etc. I figured this would be my next best option seeing as how I can't get good results from google lol. My goal is to eventually work up to competitive shooting, long way to go I'm aware 🤣. I would really appreciate the help. Thanks in advance, folks! submitted by /u/Curious_Mike

Looking to buy a bow.

I am looking to buy my first compound bow I am very interested in target archery but the price of the bows have steered me away from that type of bow. I have been looking at the PSE stinger because I heard it shoots well and people have used it for target archery and hunting. I have been looking at a lot of bows and kinda settled on this one if this is a good choice I would appreciate a response, thank you! submitted by /u/LukeH408 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3j7RsVh via

Hyperextending Elbows and String bite

Hi all, Been backyard shooting for about 2 years now with a 30lb recurve. While my form and accuracy have come a long way, I have a physiological issue that I can’t seem to get past. My elbows are hyper flexible and don’t lock where most people’s do. When my shoulders are straight and I’m in full draw, the inside of my elbow is still in the string path, and I end up with string bite. I’ve been working on my draw, trying to bend my elbow just a bit without losing draw length, but about 20 arrows in, my arm gets tired, I end up locking it, and I get string bit again. I’m wearing 2 arm guards right now on club shoot days (just joined a traditional archery club about 6 months ago) in order to reduce the amount of bruises I get. Just wondering if anyone else here has had this issue, or if anyone has any thoughts. submitted by /u/LassieMacK [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3cxtHTS via

3D outing

263 points on my first outing at 3D shooting. Good luck charm, gifts?

Does anyone have any good luck charms that they feel actually bring good luck? For those of you who don’t, do you want one? If yes, what would be your ideal gift? I really want to get my fiancé something of the sort. Personally, I have no interest in archery or hunting(he prefers it that way and so do I). However, I do love that he is so passionate about it and how happy it makes him. I bought raffle tickets to a Bow Bash a few years back and he ended up winning a bow! He still uses it. Anyway I want to get him a meaningful gift for good luck/safety. Looking for suggestions/advice on what would be a good gift for him. I hope this post is acceptable here. Thanks in advance! :) submitted by /u/JoShmoFromNantyGlo [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/2S3d4WI via

Solution to Beiter plunger scratching/wearing arrow finish?

Recently purchased a Beiter plunger and after some time, noticed the anodized finish on my XX75 aluminum arrows is gone where the plunger tip makes contact. I heard this is a known issue with the Beiter plunger and Beiter hasn’t done anything about it. I also heard some archers use the tip of the AAE plunger in the Beiter to avoid this problem. I’d like to know if I should be concerned about this beyond cosmetics, and if I should be concerned, what workarounds exist. Thanks. submitted by /u/IrresistibleTurd [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3icDBfa via

Advice on shooting a bow..

Long story short... I am new to archery and my bow and arrows arrived in the mail yesterday. It is currently set to 68#, max of 70#. The issue is my mechanical release does not come until monday. I tried shooting it twice yesterday with no hand protection, tabs, gloves etc... Well after two shots maybe three (went fishing) I stopped testing my new toy. All was fine, but I apparently pinched the nerve In those two or three shots. Prob bad form plus the absence of protection. Now my question is, I still would like to toy around with it today. I know over a long period the damage could be permanent. But do you think it would be okay to push it for a day or two and keep just using my bare hands forma day or two? I also live in BFE no local stores for supplies etc.. also this is a compound with 70% let off. submitted by /u/SnooGuavas6192 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3cxOvL6 via
