buying Ilf recurve bow

Ilf bow Hello everyone I am a rifle hunter So I det to purchase Ilf recurve bow each part separately What should I take into consideration when purchasing the parts separately ? I mean Limbs , riser ..etc I don’t know if the string comes with limbs or the screw or whatever you call them Thanks in advance submitted by /u/ansi4056 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3vw4x0i via

Fishing/hunting bow

Total noob here, tried bowfishing and absolutely loved it. Really want to get into it, and additionally do some deer hunting with a bow. So, does anyone have recommendations for a bow that could be dual purposed? Again, literally held a bow for the 2nd time a week ago so forgive my ignorance. This hobby just seems to be reeeeal expensive and I'd like to maybe get a dual purposed bow vs getting separate if possible. Thanks archers! submitted by /u/GhostAnon [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3uaQsFc via

Recurve Backpack - or Something Else?

I've used Plano and SKB hard cases to date, but interested in testing out a recurve backpack. Would like to know what others do for local transport to the range (i.e. what do you throw in the car)? Genuinely curious on everyone's preference of fletching's, Feathers or Plastic?

Was wondering what everyone's preference / opinion is on different types of fletching materials. I've been practicing with a 40lb reflex-deflex recurve bow and have found to have better accuracy with it when using feathered arrows compared to plastic fletched arrows. Now, I know that the type of bow plays more of a factor into what type of arrows you should use, but still was curious to see other opinions and preferences on types of arrows. So, feather or plastic? View Poll submitted by /u/DeadSetJet [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3nA6dmG via

Trying to teach my wife to shoot, would appreciate some tips.

Last summer I finally got a bow in my wife's hands and she was hooked. Since then I have built her a longbow and gotten her some equipment and she absolutely loves it. However due to Covid we can't shoot at a range so the best I can manage is 20ft distance into a home made target. My main issue is coaching her. It's been years since I had any form of coaching myself and if I remember correctly form tends to be slightly different for female shooters. She also struggles with her bow draw a bit (28#@28" with her drawing around 26) and "getting her shoulders to do what she wants them to" Any advice for teaching her particularly from female shooters would be greatly appreciated. Iv shot barebow recurve for 15 years and at this rate she will be as good as me in a month or so! (And has only destroyed 2 of my arrows). submitted by /u/Freakintrees [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3voyyz8 via

Bought a second-hand crossbow, got questions

Hello, first time visitor here. I'm usually more into pistol target shooting but I tried archery a while ago at the insistence of some friends who are really into it. Simply put, I like the idea, but don't have the requisite upper body strength. I recently came across a very cheap second-hand crossbow being advertised on a local buy & sell WhatsApp group and made an impulse buy. It's a Man Kung 80 pound self-cocking recurve pistol crossbow (MK-80A4AL). The person I bought it from didn't know anything about it (I had to google around with nothing but a couple photos to figure out what it was) and was selling it on behalf of what I can only assume is her teenage son. There were no extra bolts (only the 3 it came with) or accessories or even a bag, so it was probably only used a handful of times and then dumped into storage, as it has quite a few scrapes, but only aesthetic damage as far as I could tell. It was already strung when I collected it, so I'm guessin

Recurve bow recomendation under 200-300Eu?

Hello good people of reddit, I currently own Initech 2 (I know, I know) - it was my first. Something I noticed - my thumb gets fairly tired from shooting. Thumb release, different finger release techniques?

So I started archery via internet learning/online chat with a professional archery shop until my local club is allowed to reopen. I have a 66" Core Jet/Shift 22# Recurve Bow and shoot with a wrist release aid. The reason I have been using a release aid is because I suffered a crush injury to the middle finger on my release hand years ago, the result is the bone broke down the middle from the tip down past the first joint, and healed that way, as well as nerve damage and scar tissue, bending the top of that finger is painful and the tip very sensitive, and the finger also bends 10° to the right. I also have muscle weakness in that finger and my index finger. I would really like to finger release but the regular way it's done is not possible, are there any other techniques I could try? I'm aware of thumb release but thumb rings do not fit my tiny hands, I would really like to try it with a glove but can't find any anywhere other than the Kaya Shooting glove KTB in the c

Any clout shooters that use longbows... What's your setup?

Having shot clout last year using my Olympic recurve turned barebow I'd like to try again later this year but use a more traditional English longbow From the general chit chat at the shoot most were shooting 40-50# longbows with the one +60# bow which won that division... Is this my go to draw weight? I don't think I'll have any issue with tuning the bow/arrows I end up getting, but do I need to consider draw technique and draw length into this... I'm a short draw archer 26.5" and using a modern 45# ilf, shot using my Olympic recurve anchor, did okay last time out Will the sudden jump in poundage be an issue? Will shooting an equivalent 45# longbow require me to sky draw/shoot it to get to 180 yards compared to my ilf barebow... Are there any performance differences between selfbows and laminated longbows or am I looking at getting some kinda shoulder injury inducing 100# warbow! I'm not looking to break records, this is more for fun but also do well enoug

Mantis X8 opinions

I have been seeing a lot of ads for something called the Mantis X8. It tracks the details of the bow movement during the phases of the shot. My question is how does one use the information to improve. If you look at the videos on the site, they talk about consistency, but if you are doing it consistently incorrectly, how can it help find a flaw (say you pluck on release or something). Which poundage should I get?

Been using a compound for a couple years now, don’t know the poundage or much about it at all. I’ve always preferred recurve and I’ve always wanted one but I don’t know if I should get the Samick Sage 25# or the Ragim wildcat 18# or 20#. I’ve wanted a samick sage for a while, and recently I decided I was going to get one. I’m not very strong at all (and I’m also a 16yo girl) and I’m worried that I might not be able to handle 25#. Honestly I don’t know what it’s like, I’ve heard beginners should stick around 20#. I think the lighter the better, but I was looking forward to getting the samick sage, does that 5 pounds make a big difference? Should I go all in with the 25# samick and work up some strength or get a lighter bow? Beginner just getting in to archery and my 30# Draw Weight is too heavy for me, any tips?

Hi, so I just bought my first recurve takedown bow and I assumed that a 30# draw weight would be a pretty reasonable weight for me to hold, upon getting it and shooting it a little, it feels extremely heavy for me, and I can't maintain my full draw for more than 5 seconds without feeling a lot of strain. "Sticky" Virtus Rest

Hi, All About a week ago I picked up an HHA Virtus Drop Away. I got it mounted on my bow (Bear Cruzer G2) with the cable tied well down the Buss, using the D-loop method. What I've noticed is that it seems, "Sticky" for lack of a better word. It seems the lateral pulling towards the center of the bow is putting some stress on it and causing it to bind a bit and it seems to be throwing off when the rest comes to full position. Some times it pops in to place and other times not so much. It works fine if I pull straight down on the cord by hand. I put some serving above the loop, but I think I need something heavier there, so I'm going to try that for starters. But as anyone else had this issue? If so, how did you deal with it? Or, is it an issue at all? Cheers, in advance. submitted by /u/Aesculpus [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3gLk3kD via

My 7-year-old has wanted a bow for a few years and we're getting her one for her birthday. I don't know much about archery other than what I gleaned from shooting at targets on hay bales a few times. Need help with tuning my arrows...

Hello everyone. I was doing some research and trying to figure out if my bow set is correct. My bow is a arc Roman snake bow 26# 60 inch bow. I can not find what is the bow’s GPP. From what I read online, the go to standard is 10 GPP. The arrows I’m using are Black Eagle Outlaw feather fletch arrows. I have the arrows cut at 29 inches and they have a 6.1 GPI. The arrows have 85 grain target tips. I measured my draw weight for my bow to be 25.8 pounds, at 10GPP; my total would be 258 grain. My arrows at 29 inch with a 6.1 GPI and 85 grain tip is a total of 261.9 grain Is my arrow with 261.9 grain and my bow able to fire an arrow weight of 258, is this acceptable? Should I try to lower my arrow’s weight to be less since the 261.9 does not include the weight of the arrow’s insert, nock, and fletching? My POS with three under is 20 yards and my POS with split finger is 30 yards. My arrows shoot fairly straight, unless I try to shoot beyond 30 yards. I just want to make sure I’m und

Arrow selection help

Moved to compound 4 months ago, I'm training 3-5 times per week, 2h+ each and willing to start my first competitions at 50m. I shoot 4 arrows during training and my average score is around 36, usually 10, 9, 9, 8 almost never hit below 8 at 50m on a 80cm target. I'm currently shooting cheap arrows (like 5 eur each) and need to buy a new set for the competition (need at least 6 identical arrows and have only 5) and is the cheapest piece of my gear. Some specs: "slow" bow (300fps at 60# 28'') 30'' DL 47# training to move to 50# From my understanding from the Easton spine chart I should have 550 spine, probably 500 if I move to 50# (currently shooting with 600 with 100 gr points and they flight really well at 47#) but I have no clue regarding arrow diameter , point weight and fletch type . Also, at my beginner level and the huge price differences, I'm not sure how much is worth spending on arrows, I was thinking between 10 and 15 euro per a

Ragim string too thick

Has anyone experienced this with the stock strings on their Ragim bow? I've got a new Ragim wolf 68 inch longbow and the string has been too thick for every arrow I've tried so far, its 3mm (1/8") in diameter at the nocking point including serving but most arrow nocks seemed to be designed for much slimmer strings. It's really frustrating as to why Ragim would do this, I've had the bow for well over a week now and haven't been able to shoot it due to the stupid string. It doesn't help that nocks and string thicknesses aren't standard either. I even tried the hot water method to widen the arrow nocks but it made it brittle and the nock just broke apart when I tried nocking again. submitted by /u/Mountain-Lemon-1200 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3tVIIGV via

Quiver on or off compound bow for spot and stalk hunting? Also, I'm having trouble breathing while shooting my compound?

I brought a 2021 Bear Legit compound bow 2 weeks ago to get into hunting. After shooting it a bunch, I (unsurprisingly) noticed my aim is off when I have arrows in my bow-quiver (which ofc is removable). Before I had the compound, I used to shoot a recurve and kept my arrows in a waist-quiver. That's what's natural to me, and reloading my bow-quiver every time seems logistically like a waste of time when I could just keep my arrows in a waist-quiver. But what's most important for me is being effective as possible for when I'm out there. When I asked one of the employees at the range I shoot at, he said he doesn't put anything extra on his bow and keeps his arrows next to him because he shoots from a tree stand. While I want to try ambush hunting, my heart is definitely set on (eventually) learning spotting and stalking. Right now, I'm just working on my archery. But the question I wanted to ask experienced bowhunters was, given what I'm looking to do, shou

Do center cut arrow shelfs affect anchor point positions for traditional archery?

I see that the anchor point around the lips seem to be very common. Almost all of the bows that I see people use have a prominently cut out arrow shelf, or even a totally center cut arrow shelf. However, I have been watching some videos and looking at pictures of people shooting "primitive/historical" traditional bows (longbows, recurves, etc) without arrow shelfs (or with minimal arrow shelfs), and they basically never anchor at the lips. These people (shooting 3 finger Mediterrean, Slavic, Asiatic thumb draw) always seem to anchor around the corner of the jaw, below the jaw, below the ear, or even past the ear. I've watched videos where people say your anchor point in 3 finger Mediterranean draw should be the point around your head where you can line up the arrow to the target...so wouldn't this be affected by the center cut shelf since it's a perfectly center cut shelf allows a much wider variety of anchor points that can line up the arrow? submitted by

I have a Kaya KTB, when i got it my form was bad enough that my fletchings were driving into the arrow pass pretty severely, as a result most of the arrow pass has been peeled off, exposing the string wrapping underneath. Any suggestions on what to use to repair it? submitted by /u/Isotropic_Awareness [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3aHcQOS via

Left and right handed bows?

I’m left handed, I’ve been left handed all my life, and I shoot bows with my left hand as my draw hand. The one thing that I find strange, is that I use a right handed bow. I’ve never tried shooting a left handed bow and I don’t know anybody that has one. I don’t wanna buy one and then regret it. What’s the point of the arrow being on the left side of a right handed bow or the right side of a left handed bow? submitted by /u/coochie_obtainer_69 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3t2pdLX via

Weather’s starting to warm up and I want to start shooting again. Does anyone know of anything I can use as a backdrop for target practice in the woods? Arrows: Gold tip tour vs X10 pro tour for ourdoor compound target?

Each one has its pros and cons. Gold tip are cheaper but sturdier I believe. They can take quite the beating. The X10 are more expensive but they are top of the line. I'm just not sure if the extra expense is worth it. Open to all advice. submitted by /u/aokaga [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3gzTijg via

27.6 Draw Length Bow

I have a 27.6 draw length and trying to get into archery. I was planning on buying a 62 inch Tigershark Pro supposedly supporting a 28'' draw, is that good for me? First Compound Bow

Hey guys looking to get into hunting bows since ammo prices have gone insane was always bow-curious now this was just the push into it. Looking to buy once cry once and although I respect the idea of starting small and working your way up but I’d hate to buy a bow only to discard it for something later. Did some research already and got somewhat versed of the aspects to consider when buying a bow such as draw weight, draw length, weight, purpose, etc. I’m just looking for some suggestions as far as brands and models to look into with USA made being pretty important. Thanks for any and all help. submitted by /u/MEDIC6450 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3gCQ3aI via

Where did you go to learn arrow selection 101?

I'm buying arrows for the first time since my bow (and arrows) were given to me almost four years ago, and before I do that, I've decided to familiarize myself with all of the things that I had no idea made a difference in grouping and accuracy so that I can make an informed decision about which type of arrows I want to get. It's all very exciting, and I'm learning a lot. But my teeny issue is each time I open a blog post, I encounter a new acronym or bit of terminology or something that the author assumes I must be familiar with, (that I am most certainly not familiar with.) So, I open a new tab to find the definition, which leads me to another blog post with MORE unfamiliar terminology... lather, rinse, repeat. I'm currently 13 tabs deep and the rabbit trailing is endless. Which isn't a bad thing! I'm very happy to learn this the hard way, but I'd still like to know if any of you have any particular resources you learned from when you were early in

Archery Ranges near Papillion NE?

Hey y’all, my wife and I just moved up here from Louisiana in November and haven’t had any luck finding a place to shoot. The backyard is a questionable option due to it being in a residential area. The closest range I’ve found is about 35 minutes away and I don’t feel like driving that far everyday on top of having to commute back and forth to work. Any advice or suggestions would be very much appreciated submitted by /u/Fish_Meister [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3xlWCUZ via

Gotta love the archery community

Realized today that because of COVID I’ve never worn my archery t-shirt till today because I had 3 complete strangers walk up and talk to me about where and what I shoot. Made me laugh cuz where I live that kinda stuff never happens, gotta love the sense of community though over shooting sticks with another stick and a string. submitted by /u/Slow-Faithlessness25 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/2QXo9vg via

Trying to choose proper arrows

I've shot a compound for quite a while now, and I'm looking at getting an October Mountain longbow with a 40# draw w weight at 28". I personally have a 30" draw, and I was hoping for some guidance on good carbon arrows to use for practice. Any other advice/guidance for trad would be very welcome submitted by /u/tonzophunn [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3aVUB8H via

Southwest Spyder vs Black Hunter vs Galaxy Sage

For my first bow I’m trying to choose between one of these. Im leaning towards the Spyder as the Black Hunter is not in stock for left hands and Mandarin Duck has no more Inventory. The Galaxy Sage Elite is another choice of mine as my local archery shop only lets me do orders through them from Lancaster. What would you recommend? submitted by /u/Leading-University [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3sWOpDy via

How'd you get into it?

Hey gang! Bored on a rainy Sunday and looking to generate some discussion. So how did you get into archery? What kind of bow do you primarily shoot and why? I'll go first: I primarily shoot compound (a PSE Stinger) I got into archery as a kid in grade 6 or 7, because another kid I knew was doing it and it seemed like a fun hobby, that didn't require team play like hockey or other team sports. I was a small kid who didn't tend to do well athletically, but once I got decent at archery I fell in love with it I continued to shoot (mostly 3d tournaments - compound barebow) until I was about 15/16 and my parents had a divorce. Naturally it was harder to get back into in those late teen/college years, so I had a long break. At 25 I picked up a recurve (Olympic style) and did that for a few years but wasn't really digging the indoor scene I was in. Flash forward to the present (I'm now 32) and I decided I wanted to get back into compound and eventually hunting which

How to know if draw weight too high?

Relative newbie here. Bought a backyard bow and arrows and been shooting for a little while. Had a 24lb and a 40lber, moved up to the 40 and it feels fine. Normal session: I shoot 25-70 arrows, and the sessions are sporadic. Have had no problems. I had a habit of releasing before I drew and aimed properly, but I don't think that's a poundage thing, just a being stupid thing. I tried to shoot quickly before, and I think that's where I got the bad habit. Edit: Shooting recurve, not compound. submitted by /u/potatochipsareracist [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3xmjWlr via
