Thoughts on these Arrow shafts?

I was looking to get into fletching and was looking for carbon fiber arrow shafts at 500 spine. I am currently running a Southwest Archery Tigershark recurve at 45ib draw weight. I saw these arrow shafts and similar ones on Ebay of all place and wanted to see if anyone had experience with these Chinese manufactured shafts and if they are worth it. https://www.ebay.com/itm/30-Pure-Carbon-Arrow-Shaft-SP340-400-500-ID6-2-DIY-Recurve-Compound-Bow-archery/392400782506?_trkparms=aid%3D555018%26algo%3DPL.SIM%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D225074%26meid%3Df4cb53330600499d835dc9a9d778b3a7%26pid%3D100677%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D30%26mehot%3Dpp%26sd%3D163208600240%26itm%3D392400782506%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D2386202%26algv%3DSimplAMLv5PairwiseWeb&_trksid=p2386202.c100677.m4598 submitted by /u/Yort515 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/319LGdI via

Wanting to get into archery but...

Hey all - I am looking to get into archery, just casual shooting to start and maybe as my comfort level and love grows move into friendly competition or whatever. That said, I've read/watched countless articles and videos on beginner tips, what not to do, draw egos, etc. but I still find myself unprepared. I can't find anything around topics like range etiquette or how to even start. I search my local area for ranges but only seem to come across archery stores or shops. I was bullied in my early years of education, random I know, but that fear of being laughed at or messing up some random easy shit that everyone knows paralysises me into moving forward so I like to learn as much as I can prior to taking in a new hobby. Any tips or information you'd give to a new archery looking to get into it is greatly appreciated :) Rob submitted by /u/pkbrilliant [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3hTPtTq via

Anyone use a DIY fiberglass rods or PVC bows to do archery exercises?

I was looking into strength training bands, but I've read that they seem to break down pretty quickly and don't exactly replicate the muscle movement of archery. Has anyone tried using DIY PVC bows or DIY fiberglass rod/panel bows to excercise (eg. hold the bow at full draw for 30+ seconds)? I've read/watched that cheap fiberglass panels or rods can be bundled together with duct tape and PVC pipes come in many different thicknesses and can be inserted into each other, both of which allows great flexibility in changing the draw weight for exercising. Anyone have personal experience doing this? submitted by /u/Intranetusa [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/33fKKYi via

Draw length questions

I notice people refer to draw length fairly often. From what I've been able to discover, it's simply the distance between where you nock your arrow and the grip. However, I notice people talk about it like this... I'm a 25.5 lately. As if it changes from time to time. I thought it was based on the length of your arm and how far you can pull back So my questions are: Is draw length determined by you adjusting it or unique to each bow model that you buy? (i.e Oneida Eagle might have a different length to an Oneida Osprey by default) Why would you want it longer or shorter? How can draw length impact your archery for better or worse? submitted by /u/lifeisreallygoodnow [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3hWJo8y via

(rant) I applied to an instructor position that I have been wanting, and left disappointed

I've been working as a coach while working another job, but always hoped to be a full time coach. Since almost half a year after I went there I've been wanting for an opening. But I am very disappointed to find out their offer is $13/hr for a full-time position. I would have gladly quit my main job to take up a job I would be happy over but I guess I had a wrong impression that I can make a livable wage as the coach. submitted by /u/Toastied [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3173iXM via

Advice for sight

I got my first Olympic style takedown recurve and I need to bet used to it and get my form back to proper, but I’m realizing I think I’d like a sight in the future once I get my form and repeatability up. From what I gathered you gain durability and fine adjustment when you spend more. What is a good amount to spend on a solid sight that will last indefinitely? Are there crowd favorites in price categories? Is there some rogue breakaway agent that performs well above it’s price range? Thanks for any help folx. submitted by /u/MunkyMastr [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3hToDuF via

Would wrapping a pvc bow in duct tape prevent fractures?

I know that pvc pipes can splinter sometimes when in use as a bow, so I was wondering if wrapping the pipe in duct tape will prevent any potential fractures from being explosive. I don't expect it to prevent splintering or fracturing, but I'm hoping the tape will prevent it from being explosive (i.e fragments flying everywhere) should it happen. submitted by /u/nhoksa [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3jXaP48 via

Recurve draw weight advice needed

My GF and I have two bows: a 45# 62" recurve and a 30# 62". I'm looking at a 64" for myself, as I am overdrawing the 62" and I've outgrown the 30#. So my choices are a 35 pound or a 40 pound. Those seem reasonable. Now, the conundrum. Since I'm going with a longer bow (due to my height and draw length), is a 35 pound going to feel pretty much like the shorter 30 pound I'm overdrawing? Should I look to the 40 pound instead, and if it feels a little heavy, grow into it? I can also buy a 35# now and 40# limbs down the road. But I don't want to waste the $75 for another set of limbs if it's not what I need. Thanks for any advice. I realize you all can't make the decision for me, but since I will be ordering it online, rather than from a shop to try out, your help would be much appreciated. submitted by /u/tognor [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/2DhTvWE via

Not-too-pricey sight with tool-less micro-adjustment?

Fairly new to archery. Picked up a Diamond Infinite Edge Pro and have spend the last few weeks getting comfortable at 20, 30, 40 yards. My skills are definitely improving, but I’m occasionally frustrated with how difficult it is to make micro-adjustments on the sights. (You just loosen the allen screw, and then do your best to guess how far the pin needs to move…) Can anyone recommend a not-too-expensive sight with tool-less micro-adjustment? I’m accustomed to adjusting rifle sights, so I’m hoping for a bow sight that adjusts with the little clicks like a rifle sight does. submitted by /u/shadetreepolymath [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/2Xf08Ai via

Recurve Bow Suggestions for beginners?

Hi all, my birthday is coming up at the end of August and I’m going to be getting a bow. I haven’t practiced archery in years but I’ve been dying to get back into it. I used to shoot a few years back so I know I prefer recurve over longbows or compound bows so I was hoping to see if anyone had any recommendations of places to get a relatively cheap but reliable bow. I've wanted to get into archery for the last ten years, I live in a very desolate place with no access to try anything out. I've put this off long enough.

Olympic Recurve too long for draw or just right?

I'm looking at a Hoyt 25' riser with a pair of short 66' limbs. My draw length is pretty much 25''. Question about bow hand shake

To start off I have a hoyt torrex(new bow) set at 55 pounds, 27 inch draw. I'm not new to shooting a compound, and I've had this issue in the past with my youth compound bow, but now that I have more power I want to push myself to make more ethical shots on what could be a deer. I notice that after a few shots, probably 20 or so, i start to get shaky with my bow arm. Is there any way to help build muscle, or do I just need to take more breaks in between my shots? Would shooting more slowly negate this, as in will time shooting help this go away? I trust myself to shoot 10, 15, and 20 yard shots comfortably. When I go back to 30 or 40, my groups get really big. Is there any way to help my shake go away? Thanks in advance. submitted by /u/Merek15121 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3g835tI via

Recurve Advice

Looking at getting a Martin Sabre Elite recurve. It’s brand new and priced at about $230. I’ve only ever shot compound. A few questions if y’all would be kind enough to answer them please: -Is this a good deal? -Is this a quality bow? (I understand it’s not top-of-the-line, but I don’t want a toy either, just something durable) -What Accessories do I need to purchase? -What does “accepts ILF limbs” mean? I understand it refers to replacement limbs, seeing as it’s a take-down bow, but is ILF a brand or a type or what? -Was Martin recently acquired by somebody else (mainly worried about warranty) and if they were: are risers relatively durable? If my limbs break and I can replace those I’m fine as long as I can keep the riser and such. Thanks for your time, I’m sorry if these questions don’t make sense, but I’m looking forward to your answers and any education you all can give me in regards to this, thanks! submitted by /u/sergeantpope [link] [comments] from newest sub

Is a a grip scratch on new bow a 'significant' issue?

Just got my first bow by post after shooting for a year, and participating in a few competitions (with my club's bows). The new riser is beautiful, costs about 400$/350€ or so, but I noticed, despite it being bought new, it had two annoying scratches on the handle, one right across the string facing side, and one around a bolt that holds it in place. They're not deep at all, but they are noticeable when at a full draw's distance. Question is, archery shop etiquette wise, is it socially acceptable to ask the shop to send a replacement handle so that the new bow is actually new and immaculate looking? London clubs?

I’m considering getting back into archery after a few years away, and am looking for a good club in South West London/Surrey (UK). I joined my local club (which shall remain unnamed but if you live anywhere nearby, you’ll probably know it by reputation) for one season a few years ago when I moved to the area. It turned out to be a bit snotty about some fairly irrelevant things, and felt as though it was more concerned with the social aspect of being a club, than with getting people into the sport or allowing those who just want to chuck some sticks down the range to get on with it. This club put me off archery after enjoying it for many years beforehand. I’ve had a quick look on Archery GB, but it doesn’t really say much about the atmosphere or focus of the clubs. Can anyone with experience of various clubs in my area DM with their thoughts (so as not to shame any clubs on this forum)? submitted by /u/HYThrowaway1980 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery

Tips on my hook

Hi, Got my new Yost tab and want to make sure I'm using it properly :) Here is my hook: https://i.ibb.co/0D1k58m/116434438-785633645574971-6205959198711250145-n.jpg Don't mind my strange wrist position and thumb/pinky. I was trying to keep the bow away from my body and extra fingers out of the way for the image :) What im interested in is that is my hook fingers acceptable? So my top hook finger is hooked right at the first joint and at about 90 degree angle with my palm pointing at my face. My middle finger is more wrapped around the string. And the tip of my bottom finger is just resting on the string. This leaves my hand at an small angle away from my body. This is because if my head is parallel to my body and i anchor with my top finger to the corenr of my mouth and also push the rest of the top finger against my cheek its kind of impossible to still keep the whole hand parallel to my head and body. Does that sound about correct or am i doing something really wro

Sticky situation?

So I'm at my local Cabela's because it's on the way home from an appointment I had in the big city today, gift card burning a hole in my pocket from Xmas (misplaced and forgot about it) and I decide to pick up some supplies. I was looking for some fletching glue and hot melt. The only hot melt they carry is Easton, which says it's good for aluminum and aluminum/carbon composite arrows like the FMJ. Since I have no clue how FMJs are built, I ventured a guess that it'll work on carbons, too. No fletching glue, though. Guy at the counter said "Maybe December. Try the bow shop across town." No luck there, either. I know some guys use CA for inserts, or JB Weld, but I want to be able to tune and adjust my inserts. So barring the Easton not working, I'll order some Bohning Cool Flex off Amazon. The small 12g stick costs half as much as the big daddy 1 pound brick. I'll get the brick and be set for life. How about the fletching though? Regular CA like

I have experience with a 20 lb bow, but as you know this is very little and I think I mastered it, so I'm asking for a 30-40 lb cheap bow, that you can buy online (there are no bow shops closer than 700 kilometers from my location) and preferably recurve. (I don't know if this is not enough but my budget is around 200$) submitted by /u/1246532156 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/2BGkJG8 via

Arrows pulling to the right?

Im sure it's been asked before, in fact i know it has, but lots of terms are going right over my head, sorry. Im a beginner and far from any club that can help me, im basically youtube taught... I know thats cringy..... But iv been finding that my shots are constantly pulling a meter or so to the right. And grouping. So its not a stray arrow all over the place problem... I think? Any words of advice?? submitted by /u/Library-Goblin [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3f2JQ3n via

Is it safe to shoot Carbon Fiber arrows from a recurve bow?

I was told recently that shooting carbon fiber arrows (instead of straight carbon) from a compound bow can be unsafe because they are not strong enough for the kinetic energy compound bows put into them. Is this the case for recurve also? Both my compound and recurve are both 45# draw weights. submitted by /u/Rushin_Rulet [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/2X3bdnN via

Beginner question

So I am looking into buying my first ever bow and am planning on a recurve bow. I am currently deciding between a Samick Sage or Southwest Spyder as those two seem to keep coming up as top beginner bows on every list I see. The problem I am coming across is I can't find a good answer on what weight I should go with. I know most say for beginners to go light but I am a fairly big and muscular guy and work out regularly. Would it be insane to start with like 40 or 45 lbs? Some charts I have seen say for adult males over 180 lbs to go for 40 - 50 lbs draw weight but then others say a beginner should start around 30 lbs. Any suggestions from more experienced archers? submitted by /u/king_of_the_blind [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/2P44Pbm via

Where does the technique used in Kyudo/traditional Japanese archery come from?

I've always found the Japanese bows fascinating and when I recently looked deeper into Kyudo, I noticed the technique they use is very ceremonious. I'm wondering if there is a reason for that flair? Where are its origins? Is it linked to the structure of the bow or does it come from actual traditions/ceremonies? I don't know if this is the right sub for this question and whether this is the right flair, but I hope someone here can point me to a place where I can learn more about this. submitted by /u/Lord_Moa [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/2WYKokw via

Can someone please advise me on what Easton Jazz arrows to get? I’m shooting a 40lbs Hoyt Satori (hunting recurve) with a 27.5” draw length. What arrow cut length and size should I order?

Level of reduced draw with shorter draw? Sammick Sage & Others

I see that the vast majority of traditional bows have their draw weights rated at 28". I was wondering how much lower the draw weight would be for traditional bows (longbows and recurves) if you only pull 26 or 27"? This is specifically for the Sammick Sage recurve, as I was planning to get one to compliment my longbow (but I welcome input for other bows as well). Hypothetically, if I get a 50# @ 28", would that translate into 40# @ 26" or 45# @ 27"? What about an overdraw at 29" - 55#? submitted by /u/Intranetusa [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/2D6L8x4 via

Help needed - can I use a shorter bow?

Hey guys, I'm very new to archery and wanted to get my first bow. I've always been a fan of tactical equipment and carrying everything with my that I need - wherever I go. This led me to look into smaller takedown bows, namely the mandarinduck phantom. That bow is exactly what I want, jet black, small at only 56" and I can take it apart. Now I had a friend tell me that I shouldnt use bows below my optimal draw length/bow length which is, I just measured, around 27,5" (draw length). That would equal to a bow between 66-68". I've been shooting a 68" bow with 25lb lately and it was comfortable. Now my question is: will I have issues with a 56" bow with 25lb? submitted by /u/bye_im_ahri [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/39ve51G via

Lost feeling?

Week 3 of the /r/Archery league is done! The usual stuff inside.

Thanks to all who submitted this week, there was only one person who didn't submit. That's pretty good! Per the rules, the matches this week have been curated to put people with the same record against one another. I think I only had to switch around stuff a bit for one or two matches, so all the other ones should be correctly made. And now for Special Prizes! Squeek-er of the Week-er© (patent pending) goes to jack-o-lantern for winning by one point! Special mention goes to /u/svenuemordue for winning by only three. Upset Of The Week™® this week goes out to jack-o-lantern and /u/rflorant ! Both of them overcame a two-rank deficit to win their matches. Good job! As mentioned before, matches for the final week are posted. Everyone, give it your best! submitted by /u/Speedly [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/2OVkt94 via

Help Sighting In?

I just recently bought a 5 pin sight due to the 3 pin one I had just generally being unreliable. I have a 50# draw and my bow’s IPO rating is ~315 FPS. How should I go about sighting in? I’ve read some stuff online that mostly applies to 3 pin sights, and I worry that if I set my pins at 20, 30, 40, 50, and 60 yards I’ll run out of room on the bottom end following the 3 pin advice. If other info would help (such as arrow weight/type or other factors) let me know and I’ll add that in as well. I’m relatively new to the hobby and would like some help from more experienced archers, but I’m still not sure what information is needed or unnecessary.
