Handle placement on bow

Hi everyone, so I am creating a bow and wanted to know where is the correct placement of handle on the bow. Is the hand supposed to be directly in the center of the bow and the arrow on top of it? https://preview.redd.it/6tsp2g1k8fq61.png?width=721&format=png&auto=webp&s=3f0832865ebb88bd47ee7a3462753b0fe8780cad submitted by /u/Proturn [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/39xU9fX via

Direction of the string when stringing

So I know the "big" loop on the string is supposed to go on the top limb, and that when unstringing you're supposed to insert the lower limb on the little pocket on the stringer, same way as when you're stringing it. My only question is whether there's any functional reason for this or if it's just a convention? It seems like, especially with symmetric length limbs it should be the same either way, but maybe I'm missing something submitted by /u/nestor_d [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3cAlgc9 via

What arrow to buy?

Hi! I have been shooting traditional for a few months, but I started with an arrow rest and beginners arrows, because I knew arrows would get lost/broken at the start. However, I now want to swap to natural feather and traditional arrow rest, and just started to see differences of all types in arrows. So here come my inquiries. I have a draw of 30.5" and shoot 40lb limbs (it must be more like 44lb or so taking into account draw length). I was thinking of getting 600 arrows, but I'm not sure about the length, 32" maybe? Any suggestions on budget ready-assebled arrows to start with? Or is it better to assemble the arrows myself? Is it easy to do so? Thanks in advance, any advice is welcome! submitted by /u/jorx91 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3u5QAFJ via

Best begginer recurve bow? PSE RazorBack? Samick Sage? Something else? Advice please

Hello. I’m looking into getting into archery with my dad (ammo shortage for guns is pushing is to look for a new hobby haha) so thought we’d look into archery. I believe I’ve gotten to grips with the basics in what I’m looking for. I’m 5”3 at 105lb. Suspect my draw length is about 24-25” from what I measured. And think I’m looking for a 62” bow with a 20lb draw weight. Looking for a recurve. Does that sound about normal? We went to the archery shop today and the lady didn’t have much stock for recurves. I got to get a feel at the Razorback and it felt pretty good. Didnt get to shoot it though to try it. I was looking elsewhere online too and saw some others like the samick sage. Wanted to know what people recommend. Wasn’t planning on spending more than 150$ just for the bow. Also I’m left handed so it’ll have to be a model that’s for lefties haha. Thanks and any guidance will be appreciated. :) I’m getting too lost in the choices so need someone to put me back on track. submitt

Drawing Too Far/Determining an Anchor Point?

Hello everyone, I was wondering how far should one be drawing their bow? I understand that consistency is key and an archer should always have an anchor point. But where exactly should the anchor point be? Should an anchor point change depending on the distance of the target, meaning one would change their anchor point to draw farther to compensate for a farther target? I've heard of the term "stacking" before. Should an archer always "stack" their bow or get to that sweet spot (nothing better than a sweet spot) right before the bow starts "stacking?" (Sorry for the plethora of questions, but at the same time not sorry. I love you.) submitted by /u/TSTheSorrow [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3m2kWGk via

Images of assembled Spigarelli Zen and Gillo G1?

My son has been getting really into archery over the last year, and we feel he's ready for his own bow. After a bunch of reading and talking to his coach, I've narrowed it down to either a Zen or a G1. I can easily find images of the risers themselves, but having a terrible time finding pictures of either with limbs etc-- in other words as part of a fully assembled bow. Since they are both popular bows, any chance some archery redditors could help me out? also really interested to see how others have styled/accessorized. Archery post injury

I'll preface this post this post with I'm still seeking medical advice - just as I've currently been unable to find a medical professional that knew enough about archery to give a confident answer, just seeing if others have had similar experiences. Just wondering if anyone here has returned to archery post a shoulder dislocation? If so what kind of time frame did you wait prior to returning? What aided in your return to the sport? I dislocated my draw arm shoulder 8 or 9 weeks ago, even though it was quite a traumatic and damaging dislocation, I've made a pretty good recovery without surgery, with daily physiotherapy. While I'm still quite weak (comparatively speaking) I now have a good range of motion and pain has mostly subsided. Really itching to shoot again, but both physio and doctors say they don't know enough about the sport to whether it would be safe to do. submitted by /u/Migit78 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https

How do i decide the nock size?

So I'm sure many more questions will follow, but you all have been a big help. I'm trying to get into fletching and also have some arrows i want to repair. What size nock should i use? I'm shooting a 40# takedown recurve with 28" draw length. The arrows I'm trying to repair are .244" in diameter. I'm also going to go ahead and purchase shafts and fletches and what not to make a few arrows of my own. Any tips would be appreciated. Bonus question: the vanes on some of the arrows I'm using are tall and not so long, when it passes through the whisker biscuit its rubbing the inside of it, is that something to be concerned about? submitted by /u/Jor1120 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/2PkZkJl via

Upgrading to a 40lb Samick Discovery. What length limbs?

I'm upgrading from the 30lb Samick Sage I've shot for the past five years or so. The Discovery with the Samick R3 limbs come in either 60" or 62" overall lengths. What size should I get? Question on bow fit - Mathews V3 31"

Long story short: I decided after 2 years to upgrade my used Dreniln. Went in to a local shop and they steered me towards a V3. In hindsight they didn't spend near as much time with me as they should have. Anyway, my wingspan is just under 76" and the bow is set at it's max draw length of 30.5". In order to get a good sight picture and have my nose touch the string, I need to tilt my head down just slightly, which then causes my jaw to change position and a loose a bit of my anchor point. Is this common for a shorter bow, or should I really have gone with a bow that goes to 31" and/or a longer axle to axle to get a better angle? V3s are hard to come by around here so I may be able to recoup most of the cost of the bow if I decide to switch. Not sure what to do. I went back to the bow shop and the guy said "That's the cool thing about archery, some people move there head, lean back, lean forward, it's all a matter of how you want to shoot"...I

Back tension and form discussion

Right now i shoot a tru ball index release, and a Mathews VXR 31. Was considering switching to a back tension, in hopes it might have some improvement on my shots. From videos i have seen there is a "standard" way to shoot, but that mostly applies to beginners and people doing it completely wrong in general. But they basically say however you shoot, as long as you can repeat it exactly every time, you don't necessarily need to shoot the "standard" way. For example i dont pull through my shots, something i would have to do if i switched to a tension release. Aside from that i have really good form, and have a really smooth trigger finger from shooting rifles long range. I adopted that into my index release, there is no jerking, no trigger slapping, and i have a small amount of follow through, but im not as stiff as a board when it goes off. I can generally stay on a paper plate at 60yds. I still have tons of room for improvement, currently working on drawing to

Bow advice, tuning?

Dry fired my V3 yesterday

Embarrassed the hell out of myself in the middle of a pro shop. I was in there to get the 75# mods on my V3 and wanted to try out a thumb release. The bow tech opened the release I wanted to try and I was so excited to try it, completely forgot to nock an arrow, hit the thumb release and blew my string apart. Immediately called myself a dumb ass and heard a little snicker from somebody else in the shop, which was completely understandable because I was in fact, a dumb ass. They did not have a V3 string in stock, but luckily somebody else had just got custom strings for their V3 27 so I was able to shoot. The bow tech gave the bow a look over and said it looks good, and after shooting it is still shooting well, so hopefully crisis averted. Consistency help

I am having big problems with my form between shooting blank bale and at an actual target. I don't know if I would consider it target panic in the traditional sense, but many times when I am shooting at distance (18 meters or less) I "feel" like my form is just falling apart. But when I practice blank bale I feel like it is very strong. I'm confident in my alignment and use of back tension. I have a clean release and a strong follow through etc. And when I shoot at range, I hardly have any confidence in my process. And my arrows have erratic flights, tailing left and right, and are generally just all over the place. I will have times when I get to the line and I feel like the process is good and I have great results. I posted a picture a few days ago of my best group yet at 20 yards. But that kind of group is rare. Also most of the shooting I am doing is in my backyard. That is when I have the most trouble. But when I go the the archery range, I don't feel like I
