Backpack quiver recommendations

I am looking for some recommendations on a decent backpack/day pack with an integrated quiver. I usually shoot my compound with an attached quiver for hunting, however I am starting to get into some 3D shoots where a day pack with an integrated quiver might be the better option. Any info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. submitted by /u/Vash_85 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3qBqPwx via

help me understand the dynamic spine calculator chart

i have an old wood/fiberglass recurve that's 29 pounds at 28 inches, which is my draw length. when I plug my info into this dynamic spine calculator it says I need a super heavy tip, around 250 gr, in order to make it balance out with my pretty average, normal weight bow, for the 600 spine carbon arrows that I use, and in fact for most 600 spine carbon arrows listed there. is that correct? i've used 125-150 gr target points for a long time and my arrows seem to fly just fine. 125 seems to be the standard weight that a lot of people use. but should I get the extra heavy tips, bc this spine calculator tells me to? that seems like it would give me a super high FOC. submitted by /u/marshallmellow [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3qEC8E7 via

I got a couple questions

So, I'm a newbie to archery (I mean, I've shot bows at boy scout camps, but that was in excess of a decade ago now). Why? Quieter and cheaper than shooting rifles (ammo shortage yay!). Please assume I know next to nothing. Yes, I know range safety stuff and I know not to dry fire a bow, but after that I got squat. What should I be looking for when buying a bow? I don't need top of the line stuff, but I like decent gear. Would something I find on Amazon be good enough? What draw strength? I'm neither small nor weak, but I know a heavy draw bow isn't good for learning. Not looking to get competitive with this. Thinking a recurve bow right now. Any other equipment I should have on hand? I'm left hand dominant, but right eye dominant. This means I shoot rifles right handed, but do most other tasks left handed. Which one gets priority? Do I shoot bows right handed or left? For what it's worth, I'm decently ambidextrous, so I can get on board with shooting

Shooting glove advice?

Hey everyone! I was wondering if anyone has ever tried the Tuscany Leather Shooting Glove by Blacktail Bows? I am new to archery and researching gear before I go to my local shop. I took a class recently and was told I’d most likely need a bow between 16 and 24 lbs draw weight. I know I saw that some people drawing heavier weights seemed to have pain if there wasn’t enough padding…not sure if I should be worried about that at my low draw weight? Is this glove going to be enough for my purposes? I really don’t want to end up with nerve damage. Here is the link: https://www.blacktailbows.com/store/p157/Tuscany_Leather_Shooting_Glove.html Thanks for your input! submitted by /u/Ophoe [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3hnDcb8 via

Fletching with feathers for the first time. Need some advice.

So I'm kind of new to archery and thought I'd try fletching a couple of my arrows with feathers instead of plastic vanes. I 3D-print my fletching jigs and I can choose straight, offset or helical and when using plastic vanes I have gone with helical for arrows I completely refletched and straight for pre-built arrows I just repaired one vane on. However the 3" LW feather vanes I got in the mail today are rather stiff compared to the plastic AAE EP23 vanes I'm used to so I'm not sure helical is even possible with real feathers. Also I read somewhere that LW will spin counterclockwise and RW clockwise. Does this mean I'll get a counterclockwise spin even if I glue them straight or should go for a left offset (or even left helical if possible)? What's the recommended approach when fletching with real feathers? EDIT: Found some info online and if understand it correctly straight fletching is not recommended and I should go for left offset or left helical wi

A little worried

I live in a semi suburban town and i use my target 40 pound bow in my back yard ( there's a back board and everything is safe on that behalf) anyways I was getting ready for my shot and my release aid misfired somehow (first time ever happening to me) and the arrow sorta travelled a little bit, so anyway I can't find it and I'm a little worried it might have hit something like someone's house or something, sorry just needed to clear that out from my mind. submitted by /u/Jadecix [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3dstnHE via

Arrow insert sizes (What is standard?)

So I've been getting into archery and just bought these blackout arrows from Cabelas. The insert takes a 5/16 screw size but I looked it up and the "standard" is 6/32. Bareshaft Tuning

Hello, I have a Hoyt Torrex, 63lb draw weight and 28.5 DL. Using Easton Bloodlines 330 spine - 420 grains total - FOC is 13% with Field Points. My problem is this, I am shooting a bare shaft and a fletched shaft at 15 yards and the point of impact is within an inch of each other ( if I do my part ) however the bare shaft is consistently nock right in the matrix foam target. I have a feeling that the nock right bareshaft could be a result of the target medium. If I shoot in a worn out spot it is considerably straighter. Fresh spot very right. The fletched arrows stay relatively Square to where I am shooting in either target area. Should I move my rest left a touch and evaluate? submitted by /u/foamguy312 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3y4xrFX via

Newbie question - can I grab arrow by the vane when removing from target?

Hey guys, sorry if this is dumb - tried googling but couldn't find anything. I am shooting my arrows into a block target and finding that they penetrate pretty deep oftentimes, leaving only a few inches to grab onto to remove them. This results in me grabbing them by the vanes on the end. Is that okay? Wasn't sure if they were totally okay to flex and bend or if it's a big no no to grab them at all. And if that's the case, how do you remove the arrows then? Thanks guys! submitted by /u/alrashid2 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3h0946J via

Arrow recommendations for 36# recurve bow?

I've recently fallen in love with archery and am looking to get some decent feather arrows. Can anyone recommend some that they like? I'll be using them exclusively for target shooting. I'm using this 36#, 66" recurve bow and have been using these cheap 30" tiger archery carbon arrows . I'm happy with both, but I'd like to see what an upgrade feels like. Advice on budget Turkish bow with low draw weight that I can learn thumb draw technique on.

Howdy arrow spitters I am in need of advice! Thus far I've only owned take down recurves where I've always shot off the shelf using the split finger mediterranean draw. I recently purchased two thumb rings, a stiff copper one and a flexible leather one. Now I want to buy a budget low draw weight (#30) asiatic recurve bow and the short Ottoman/Turkish style has caught my eye. From what I've read they are snappy and flat shooting bows that are surprisingly fast for their length and draw weight. I've narrowed it down to three options: the Alibow fiberglass Turkish bow with ox horn string bridges ($100), the Arrouha turkish bow ($129) and the Deer Seeker turkish bow ($159). Prices include shipping but not tax. Any archers with experience shooting any of these three or know someone who has owned one and can relay their experience, advice on which one would be best to learn thumb draw on would be very appreciated! submitted by /u/B00STER_SENDICATE [link] [comments]

An ideal target distance?

I'm new back to archery after a 30 year hiatus. Is there an ideal distance from a target that reflects the reality of hunting game in particular? I'm not looking to plink a quarter at a hundred yards/meters (yes, I know a meter is longer...), just to be consistent through a given, realistic range. Release recommendation

I'm a compound archer with a trigger style release, and it's been pretty much the only thing I've shot. Last week, I shot a back tension release for the first time, and holy crap was it the coolest thing I've experienced during the actual release. I want to start looking for some sort of combo release (because I would like to keep the same release for hunting and archery at the club), but the options are simply overwhelming. Takedown limbs stuck tight in riser (used Martin Jaguar)

Hi everyone, I obtained a used Martin Jaguar bow, but just the riser and takedown limbs, I plan to buy a string etc. Anyway, I’m have trouble removing the limbs and I don’t want to damage anything so I’m asking here before I do. I’ve taken out the bolts and we have other takedowns that seem to just come off the front of the riser pad but these limbs seem to be holding friction between the riser and limb touch. What would be best approach to safely knock the limbs loose, or perhaps the proper direction to “pull” the limb off the body. Any help is appreciated! I will edit the post with an image link as well. Arrows dropping from Arrow Rest

Hey, recently i swapped out my Stock Arrow Rest (should be Cartel) for a Hoyt Super Rest. However, ever since I made the swap, my arrows have always been dropping from the arrow rest when shooting. Is it due to the thinner arms? My shooting have been really bad ever since too. My arrows are shooting way lower than usual without much 'force'. Beginner here too in advance. Am I missing something? Can it be that my finger tab is gripping my arrow and I need to trim it more? submitted by /u/EtheritePochi [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3hbb3UP via

Olympic Recurve sounds different for first shot

My wife is using a SF Forged+ riser and 22 lbs limbs. Since she had had the bow, the first shot always had a bit of "twang". It only happens the first time the shoots after stringing the bow, it's fine for the rest of the session. This has been happning for years, the experts at our club always said it's fine, but I'm not so sure anymore. A few days back I took apart my wife's bow and checked everything. Checked tiller, aligned the limbs etc. Anyway, I rechecked the tiller of the bow before her first shot and then again after. There was a massive change. It went from -0.1 cm to almost -1.5 cm. Now, this change in tiller might be due to my work on the bow on the weekend, but I also have a feeling it could be related to that twang sound she gets when she shoots for the first time. Any ideas? submitted by /u/lighthaze [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3AfXRqq via

I want to get into archery. Which compound bow would work best for me?

I really want to get into archery and bow hunting but I get intimidated by all of the options for compound bows and their accessories. Especially because they can all be very expensive. So which compound bows do you recommend I try? Here's some useful info about my situation: I am looking for a compound bow I want to target shoot and potentially hunt big game (primarily deer and elk) My budget is anywhere from $1000 to $1600. Maybe more if it would be worth the extra investment. I am a 6 foot male My draw weight is anywhere from 60 to 80 pounds last I remember I know that picking the right bow is a personal thing and that the best way to find one you like is to actually try shooting one. Just ordered a bow for the first time... and I might've made a mistake.

So, I was talking with some friends, I am leaving for basic training in august, and I wanted to find a way to kill some time! So I figured I'd do something both physical and recreational, so I decided to get a bow. Compound bows seemed a tad too complicated so I decided to go with a longbow instead. So I did some research (Not enough) and decided I'd get a bow I could maybe go hunting with at some point in the future... I knew that 40 pounds was the legal minimum to go hunting, so I decided to go higher. A couple of bad decisions later, I ordered a 75-80 pound longbow... as a first timer... I feel this was a small brain move... submitted by /u/Jakm12 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3jkjkZ2 via

Using pressure button on a wooden riser possible?

Hello Reddit I am having trouble setting up my pressure button up on my core archery wooden riser. to my understanding I am supposed to align the arrow slightly to the left of the bow string whilst the string is aligned with the riser. my problem is that I can't because the pivot point of the magnetic arrow rest I am using means the tip is too far away before I even set up the pressure button. So my question basically boils down to is the wooden riser designed so that a pressure button doesn't need to be used at all? and that hole is for those bolt through arrow rests? Questions about wooden arrows

Hi! I have started to dip into the world of making my own wooden arrows (there was a workshop at my club about it and found it pretty interesting). I wonder if anybody knows of a good guide where they explain carefully how to choose the arrow side for the cock feather. I know that it should be parallel to the wood veins and that on one side the arrow will be stiff and the other soft but I cannot memorize a good rule when marking the shafts. Additionally… spine testers: DIY or cheap commercial o es that you would recommend (and available in Continental Europe)? How to DIY a backstop?

My dad purchased a bow because he wants to start pick up archery to shoot with me. I shoot outside in our field whenever I need extra yardage to practice for 3D. Since he is just starting out, I am looking into building a backstop so we don't lose all his arrows lol. We have our back net inside the basement but really don't want to remove it. I'm not looking to spend a lot of money, but unfortunately with the price of wood, its getting hard to avoid. Can't hold an 18lbs bow?

I'm a newbie archer. I used to practice bujinkan budo Taijutsu in 2018 and my sensei thought us the basics of archery and I actually could hit the target on that day. After that I was really excited to learn more and bought myself a bow. it is an 18lbs recurve bow. After a few months playing around I moved town and now I have nowhere to practice so I stopped practicing. Now, three years later I have somewhere to practice again. Yesterday I assembled my bow and realized that I can't even hold it long enough to aim properly, my arms start to shake. I'm not sure if my posture is wrong and I'm putting to much strength on the wrong muscles or if I'm just weak and should get a lighter bow (I only had one day of lesson so I don't really know if I'm doing it right or not) submitted by /u/brubsabrubs [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3x1lqRM via

Practice makes me happy some days :-)

In preparation for the upcoming indoor shoot at TAC I've not been scoring any rounds but practicing at 18m at a single 40cm face. This means to get a 10 or X you need to hit a spot about 40mm in diameter on a 400mm target face. :-0 With the latest shutdown of Sydney this will likely reduce numbers and improve my chances. I'll probably be, once again, the only one shooting in my class. So I'm hoping to Steven Bradbury this event like I did at the Canberra Short Course lol I'm going to join in the indoor Wednesday night club shoots when the next round starts up again and they shoot both 18m and 25m indoors. So was practicing these distances today. Today's effort makes me think I'm starting to work out where I've been going wrong and with so many variables this is making me happy and a sign that I might not just have to rely on being the only one in my class to be competitive. ;-D These are all at 25m https://eventdesq.sportstg.com/index.cfm?fuseactio

It stabilises shots massively and instantly improved my accuracy by about 10 yards (specifically, I was able to get the spread I was getting at 40 yards, at 50 yards - right away). submitted by /u/JackDrawsStuff [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3A1WLyk via

Learning Archery Nov 2020 -June 2021 #texasarchery #learningarchery #archerquest #archery

https://youtu.be/2fADx9iXPPU Did archery back in college (no pro just sports credits) , now restarted archery activity with my kid(12) , we joined a local club Texas Archery – Texans Archery Club & Texas Archery Academy (501c3) and also learning from Archer's Quest – Online Course to learn Archery (archersquest.info) program. We been having a lot of fun with the club and coaches ... now kid taking basic weekly group classes learning a lot about different aspects of archery , next step joining the local league, go to take private coaching and outdoors archery .... been doing this very recreational but lot of fun. ... Been learning a lot from this reddit and other resources .. We are still shooting 10M-20M 40cm target, kiddo is using a Genesis bow around 10-15 pound (still working on getting stronger up to 20) . I am shooting a cheap recurve bow 26 pound. submitted by /u/IcyMind [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/35W5ZhD via

Frequency of weight lifting and archery trainings

I just recently got finally back to archery after almost 2 years break but unlike last time I'm also hitting gym 3 times a week now (fullbody training, mon, wed, fri). My question is: can I shoot the other 4 days in a week without worrying about muscle recovery, or should I get at least 1 - 2 free days during the week? submitted by /u/Bamby02 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3jgQOI0 via

Needing help on deciding for a more customizable bow or new arrows

so after my last post on arrows with plastic feathers and their feathers breaking off i bought an arrow rest, specifically this one; arrow rest: problem is, its made for a recurve bow aka not mine, my bow doesnt have attachments and holes / other stuff to attach an arrow rest etc to. (like here) https://preview.redd.it/o7832kwalk771.png?width=984&format=png&auto=webp&s=5836839bc026fb8d446eaa1474f346d60bef10b9 mine instead is pretty plain. black stuff in the middle is just soft and flat. so i could buy the mankun bow which i could attach an arrow rest to etc (its also a good 20$ less expensive)but it has half the draw weight, and i want my arrows to shoot hard and fast (i also have no problem drawing this one) now i could buy arrows with natural feathers but im having issues deciding. my bow is av. 40 lbs the mankun is av. 20 lbs (pullweight) so to the experts here, whats the better option, mankun and arrow rest (already have arrows) or old bow but natura

Extreme target panic

I can draw the bow with an arrow to anchor just fine when I'm not aiming toward the target, but often when a target is in-front of me I can't bring myself to full draw and to anchor. It's like there's a mental block stopping me from drawing back those last couple inches, even if I draw back and anchor whilst not facing the target I'll collapse again if I try to bring the target into view when fully drawn. I'm guessing this is an extreme case of target panic, how do I get out of it? If I walk right up to the target and draw with the arrow pointed at it then I can do it no problem. submitted by /u/Mountain-Lemon-1200 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3dfYeai via

Where can I find a bow?

I’m typically thinking I would like to look for a recurve bow but I’ve only got a budget of about $100. Where can I buy one that isn’t a youth bow and has some strength? submitted by /u/ChillinKillins [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3dcrvmf via

Recurve bow string length

Hi all. Quick question. I have a 25" riser with medium limbs creating a 68" bow. Is it fair to assume I need a 64" string and the bow is 68" AMO? I've only purchased one string so far and it's a Flemish twist. Looking to buy a premade and have all the equipment to start making my own. Just finding conflicting info regarding string length. Thanks! Edited: AMO not IMO submitted by /u/AmazingSpanoMan [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3jbvpzP via

After a year of jealously hanging out with my husband at the range, I finally got my first bow! The one and only Hoyt Torrex Vixcen Edition: don’t know many people interested in bows, so I had to share somewhere!

Setting up a target in my apartment.

I'm going to make a diy target wall in my apartment, but im new to archery and need some advice. So far my plan is to nail 2 layers of cardboard to the wall, then bolt on a 2 in layer of plywood, then a layer of whatever that archery target padding is called?(help) and then to hang woven archery targets on that. Im shooting a 28 pound recurve and just want to make sure the arrows dont go into the wall. P.S. the wall im using doesn't face another apartment. submitted by /u/AlarminglyConfused [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/2T7nMj5 via

In Boise, are there private coaches?

Hi there. I’m in the Boise, Idaho area and recently got into archery. I’ve put some arrows down range and begun to tune my form based on feedback and YouTube videos and have absolutely no F’ing clue if I’m doing right and I’m not going to pretend I’m perfect. My grouping are however becoming more consistent. I would like to bow hunt (recurve) and want to do it responsibly and I don’t know if the club guys will be able to help as much as a couple of hours of private lessons a couple times. This whole archery thing is a rabbit hole I didn’t know existed and it’s been fun but having some live feedback from a pro is absolutely invaluable. Does anyone in the area know a good coach? I just need a couple sessions. submitted by /u/AudZ0629 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/2SxrK4w via
