Arrow speed - 50 lb recurve vs 50 lb compound

I've been shooting on a #25 recurve for a couple of months now. The people at the range shooting on compound have such crazy arrow speeds. I'd like that sort of performance but I prefer the look and feel of recurve. If I work up to higher draw weights on recurve, is it the same as shooting on compound in terms of arrow speed? submitted by /u/theballs36 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/2Y9m5DX via

Another Riser Recommendation Question

So, I was shooting a one piece recurve that was rated at 50lb draw until one of the limbs delaminated on me. I'm needing to replace it and want to go with an ILF setup. I do 3D shooting and bowhunting. I have a 32" draw. My old bow was 62" and was kind of uncomfortable to shoot. I also have a lighter 64" bow that is more comfortable but probably wouldn't be at the 50lb draw. I was thinking of getting a 25" riser and a set of 30lb long limbs for 3D/target shooting and a set of 50lb short limbs for hunting. I'm curious if anybody can recommend risers that would do well with this setup? I'd like to keep it under $300 for the riser if possible. submitted by /u/Emberglo [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3mVAsX7 via

Beginner equipment - Olympic Recurve

I started taking lessons and although I can borrow a bow, arrows, and everything I need. I'd like to buy my own stuff sooner or later. I love the sport and want to do it long term, so I thought buying high quality stuff would be a good idea. I get that, as I progress, I'll have to upgrade the limbs and the arrows, but can I stick to the rest? So would it make sense to invest in let's say a good riser and sight? Or which parts in general does it make sense to buy in a better quality in the beginning? submitted by /u/MeloTheMelon [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3zyqKxc via

[EU] Looking for a great beginner horsebow to get into archery

Hi, I've always wanted to get into archery. I like to would start my archery adventure by starting with a horsebow. However, I'm having a hard time deciding what bow to buy. I've already done some research and found out I need a low draw weight bow to start out so I guess I'm mainly looking for a good beginner 25-30 bow I can use to learn archery with and then upgrade this bow when I feel like it. A lot of people recommend alibow but my main issue with them is that they're located outside the EU and I'll probably have to pay additional fees on top of the price of the bow. I've seen some people talk about grozer but I don't know how good their beginner bows are. I've also looked into archery sets that include everything you'd need (such as: https://bowshop.eu/our-bows/sets/HUNGARIAN-SET ) but it's hard to find any data on the bow that in the packet and if it's any good. I'd also like to know what arrows/target you guys would recommend

Trying to get into the sport but I have questions

So recently I’ve been trying to get into archery, I found out there was a pro shop/range 3 mins away from my house and that made me even more interested in wanting to play. He recommended either the Stinger max or Brute Nxr packages which come down to about a $200 difference just for the bow. Every time I ask for what I should be looking for in a bow he says “whatever feels right”. What would be a better bow to start out with for just shooting at the archery range? Um, am I the asshole if I want a refund? (The Longbow Shop purchase)

Hi /r/Archery , so back in early april I ordered a Blackfoot Bearpaw bow from The Longbow Shop UK in #40. I have still yet to receive anything. Over the course of these nearly 5 months, I've asked for 5 updates. On average it takes 2/3 days for an email reply and i've basically gotten the runaround everytime saying that the bow is being custom made and requires time. But it's been five months. I was told originally it would take 8-10 weeks (so late June at the latest) and the last email had said mid-late august (emailed in mid JULY ) for shipping at the latest. Today, on Aug 30, I get an email from asking where my bow is last Friday. All it says is, "i've been on vacation, ask Pip" and an email to someone at bickerstaff bows. Honestly, I'm having a hard time even wanting to give my money at this point with how unclear they've been through everything and I am worried if there is a problem, shipping will be a royal pain (as im in the states). The w

At what poundage do spin wings become an advantage?

Eight months in and I've been wondering if there is a point at which the poundage of your bow is/isnt enough to take advantage of any brand of "spin wings" I use a straight delta wing atm and I'm not sure if spin wings could add an extra ten, or even a single digit improvement on every end I shoot and incrementally improve my score. (For when we get out of our local lock down due to a recent Covid outbreak of course) This site linked below has given up much of the information I was after and if it didn't answer my question, it led to the answer on a local (to my country's site) selling the type I decided to look at, that did. https://www.bow-international.com/reviews/equipment/the-essential-guide-to-vanes/ https://www.bow-international.com/features/qa-which-spin-wings-should-you-pick/ I did find a suggested minimum poundage of 35lbs for spin wings, but I closed the link and now cant find it again! troubleshooting specific arrow hitting to the side

I must be missing a bit of terminology or something because every website I can find is on troubleshooting shots as a whole but I have a problem with a specific arrow. I have one specific arrow (XX75s) that is hitting right (I'm left handed) on my compound bow. I thought it was a flyer but then I shot it 3 more times and then held left to get it on target. I watched the arrow move horizontally to the right every single time. The first 1/4" of one of the fletchings is slightly unglued, but I have had entire fletchings come off and not behave badly on the same arrow setup. In July I was unfortunate enough to experience an episode of optic neuritis. This has left me (most likely permanent according to my neuro ophthalmologist) blind in my left eye. Solutions to getting numb fingers?

Hi all, I've been shooting for about 6 months now, typically about 2 times per week, 60-90 arrows, and in the past couple of weeks, 3 sessions per week. I've started getting numb fingers, primarily in my index, so I made an effort to distribute the weight between my middle and fourth finger, but still getting numbness in all of them. Recurve for 6’3ish guy

I’ve been shooting for a couple months now and I really love archery. I’m going old school and using a bare recurve - no sights or such - with the plan to eventually hunt small game and then large. My problem is finding an upgrade that will not utterly demolish my bank account. Im looking to spend under 300 on a 68-70in recurve with a 50-60lb draw weight that would be ideal for hunting. I’ve been googling the earth and my inexperience prevents me from making an executive decision. The draw weight will not be too much; I have previously been a serious body-builder that fell into bad habits due to having children, but I’m still very strong and relatively fit, as well as my introductory bow purchased off of Amazon is allegedly 40lbs and not a problem for me to draw back 28in+. Still learning the lingo, too. Thanks for any advice and recommendations. submitted by /u/ParticularChannel848 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3Bkznfe via

Ending a 20 year hiatus, need help with gear

I'm trying to get back into archery after ~20 years away and I need some help getting set up. I want to re-learn with my old bow, but intend to step up to something a little heavier for hunting once I'm proficient. I've got a Martin Archery X-200 35# @28" recurve bow that appears to be in okay shape despite spending decades in various basements and garages. There's no cracks or anything, doesn't make weird noises, and I've shot it a bit recently and it felt fine. Am I correct in assuming it's probably safe? The string is a little frayed, so I'll replace that before using it again. The AMO length is 60", can I just buy any string of that length or is there more to it? Last time I bought anything I was 14 and the clerk just handed me stuff to try. Now I live in the boonies and the shops by me only carry compound bows so I'm mostly on my own. I don't have a single arrow that isn't missing fletching or bent, so I'll need new ones

Serving Fraying around Limb Tips

Hi everyone, I checked the FAQ and didn't see any questions like this that had been answered so I figured I'd post here. I feel like I'm going through strings faster than normal. I use a PSE Nighthawk at 62" and a 45 lb draw weight. I have a fairly minimalist setup (no sights, plungers, stabilisers, etc) and noticed that the serving around the limb tips seems to be fraying pretty quickly when I shoot. I shoot about once a week and have to replace strings every 6 months to a year. From what I've read on here and other places a string (when properly cared for) should last longer than that but I could be wrong. There's two leading theories I have for why this is happening. The first is that the grooves where the string wraps around the limb tips are too sharp and are cutting into the serving therefore causing it to fray faster. I tried temporarily adding some adhesive felt to soften the edge but I haven't been using this method long enough to be able to tel

Moving up in draw weight on a budget

Hi all, I’ve been shooting my 50-55lb ELB for about 3 weeks and it is starting to feel very easy so I was considering an upgrade. Thing is, I can see myself wanting to upgrade again pretty soon so I was thinking about budget bows and even pvc. Any warbow shooters want to offer their experiences with moving up in weight? No regular access to range. Is it beneficial to buy a cheap bow to practise form at home?

I just had my first ever target recurve lesson and archery experience 2 days ago at a beginner's class. The coach was busy correcting my form throughout that 1 hour session. Prior to that, I have never used a bow before. My knowledge is purely from youtube videos. I can only go to this lesson once a week as this is the only time our schedules can match. I have no access to the range yet as I cannot shoot unsupervised. Is it useful to buy a cheap bow set (eg. Core Silhouette ~70 USD from Merlin) to practise form at home? Olympic Recurve tuning: Point weight vs arrow length

So I was finally able to find a dozen Avance arrows. They are spine 600 and cut to 29 1/2" front-to-throat length, currently using 110 grain ML points (90-100-110). Today I went to shoot some bare shafts and the current setup is a bit on the weak side. At both 18m and 20m, the bare shafts fly to the right of fletched ones (I'm right-handed), but were at least able to hit the target. At 30m, bare shafts are about 15-20" to the right when my limb bolts are at the weakest settings. So I need to stiffen my arrows. Grip / Bow torque help.

So hopefully long story short I found out this past week or so that I torque my bow. How I found this out. I needed new cables, was shooting through paper at my shop and the tech could shoot bullet holes. I couldn't. The owner could shoot bullet holes. I couldn't. You might say it is just my bow. NOPE. I shot the owners bow which he shot bullets, I couldn't. I will say I can very consistently shoot 5-10 arrows through paper with the same 4 o'clock tear, like everytime. So whatever I do wrong, I'm consistent. They set my bow to center, where they were shooting bullet holes, and left it, by my request. I have been trying to remedy whatever I am doing "wrong" with my grip and no matter what I do or what they thought I should try, or what teachings can be found online, I cannot shoot bullet holes with a "tuned" bow. I did break that wrist as a kid and despite not really noticing lack of movement, this may have something to do with it. The only way I

Wondering about how stabilizer weight setup is affected when an extender is used.

So I've read the "bible" to weight distribution, the one you too may have seen here. The math does not confuse me; I understand exactly what he means. However, one thing he doesn't touch upon is when you add an extender before the V-bar to your front rod. Let's say it's a 4" extension, your front rod is 30", and your side rods are 10". Nowhere in his math does he appear to mention this, but if the side rods are pushed forward by that 4", does that mean you should treat them as if they're 6" side rods instead in your calculations, or leave the formula alone? Alternately if you don't run an extender, do you add that 4" that would have been to the side rods instead? What do you think? Beginner looking for advice

I've purchased the Sanlida Dragon X8 compound bow, but have held off on getting the arrows. I'm hoping you guys can cut down some of my learning curve by recommending a good brand/moderately affordable practice arrows as well as hunting arrows. I live in a very remote area and will be ordering them off of Amazon. Compound to Recurve

Does anyone have any experience or tips for moving from compound to recurve bows? I've shot a compound bow in the past (for hunting primarily), and am looking to switch to an olympic recurve or barebow for target shooting. submitted by /u/10swood [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3zsKWR1 via

Is it ok to get cheap fiberglass ebay arrows (with a correct spine) for practicing with my new compound

So i just bought a used compound bow and assumed my arrows would be ok ... they probably wont 😅... my arows were bought for a 25lbs olympic recurve and this is a 30-40lbs compound bow. is it ok to get cheaper arrows with a spine that should work or is that risky? are they likely to fail catastrophically or be terrible what do you think is it worth it or should i look for better more expensive arrows instead? submitted by /u/Alyssa-0920 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3kv4Y7l via

I’ve been clearing out my old room to move, and what do I find behind a shelf? My stash of old cheap arrows??I don’t know what to do with them and none of them fit my current bow. Anyone got any tips of what to do with them?

New to Compound Bows - Arrow Question

I have been shooting a crossbow for several years now and really enjoy it for hunting. But recently I've been trying to get into compound bows and I'm trying to figure out arrow choices (i.e. length, grains, and spine being the main ones I know of). Do you guys have any recommendations for beginners? I calculated my draw length to be about 27in, and because I'm a beginner I thought about starting at 40lb or so, but if you have other suggestions, I'm open. Thanks in advance for the help. submitted by /u/Wulfh0und [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3sTyabL via

Question about the type of arrows I need to shoot a certain bow

I’m thinking of getting this bow and I was wondering what type of arrows I need to shoot it. I only plan on using this bow for target practice for fun and I also don’t plan on moving up the poundage of the bow any time soon because I haven’t shot a bow in a while Also another question but I’m not sure if I’m asking in the right subreddit but how old do you have to be to purchase a bow in Ontario, Canada? submitted by /u/Mokicooper_1 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3ktsSzZ via

Tuning after VXR mod change

Question; I’m supposed to be picking up a used VXR 28 from someone this weekend. The seller claims it’s recently tuned. However, I’ll need to swap out mods and cut down about 1in of draw length. Would that call for a complete retune? I can get the mods before picking it up and I can do that myself with no press. But, I’m getting the bow on Sunday and none of the local shops will be open. Really, I’m asking more so because I lack the patience to wait until next weekend to shoot it. 😬 I do plan to take it to the shop anyways next weekend to be sure, but wondered if it would at least be shootable until then. Thanks 🙏🏼 submitted by /u/ChadtheLevite [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/2WvSJPe via

Taking up Archery

Hi everyone, I’ve been considering taking up archery for almost a year now and was wondering if you guys can help me with a few things I’m not too sure about. - How easy is it to find archery classes etc, or is it worth it going to an archer and asking them to show me the ways. -How expensive is it, do the arrows need to be replaced every week, month, year? -Outside of the shooting range do tou ever use the bow and arrow?
