Spin Type vanes vs. Rubber vanes

So this pertains to olympic recurve specifically as opposed to barebow. I know rubber vanes are pretty in favor in the barebow world. Is it worth having to replace spin vanes every week? I don't think I'm competitive enough to notice the grouping benefits if any. I just want to keep focusing on my form without the distraction of worrying about my vanes. I've been interested in switching to Dragonflight vanes specifically due to their light weight or AAE WAVs so I don't give up too much range. I've used spin vanes for a couple years now. XS vanes, Elivanes (my preference), and currently Spider Vanes. Based on my experience they've been very fragile in general. I've just stuck to them because "they're what the pros use" and "all the top scores have been achieved with them". I've done a preliminary google search but most posts on this topic are from early 2000s. I'm looking for more updated opinions/findings. submitted by

New Archery Round Ideas?

Archery and cheapness had caused me to get punched in the face 3 times now... by myself.

So the loop string that I clip my release to, well it gets worn and starts to fray. Instead of spending almost ni money and replace it. Today for the third time, I've used it till it fails, which means as I draw, my release pops off and I give myself 70lbs of draw weight with my hand square in my mouth.... you would think I learned after the first two failed, but you'd be wrong. submitted by /u/401lifechng [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/2EO5aNR via

AMO vs actual length confusion

so I just had the very wonderful experience of my bow string snapping in half. I was looking to buy a new one and I am confused on what to buy. The bow manufacturer lists the string length as 50" on amazon. And the bow body length is 53.5". So is my ACTUAL length 50" or is that my AMO? This is very confusing. I was actually also looking to get a string about 2" shorter because I want to decrease my brace height. submitted by /u/Normal_guy420 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3bpDYkN via

Walk back tune pattern caused by .....

If you look at walk back tuning results you have two solutions when the arrows are not landing in the middle. If the arrows land at an angle it can be adjusted with the button. If they curve it can be adjusted by winding the button in or out (adjusting the center shot) But why is that causing a curved pattern. Why do the arrows start to go more towards the center at further distances. Is it the correction of the vanes that get more time to "fix" the issue. Just curious and trying to understand, thanks submitted by /u/n4ppyn4ppy [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/2ENwJXB via

Practicing both compound and recurve?

Do people practice using both types of bows? I started doing compound recently, but due to living in the city I can only practice at a 20yd indoor range. Outdoor ranges are still closed. At 20yds, it’s getting to the point where I feel diminishing returns using the compound bow and I’ve started to have to throw away arrows from damage. Recurve looks like it takes a good deal of time to get good groupings at 20yds, so looks like a good way to pass the time until I can use the compound at longer range. For those that use both, do you still use both equally or did you pretty much settle on just one? submitted by /u/jinshifu [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/34LZLBP via

New Bowhunter w/ equipment question

Aspiring bow hunter here. Still relatively new to archery. But really green when it comes to the intricacies of archery equipment. Just got my bow back from being restrung. Previously my 4 pins were sighted at 15,20,25 and 35 yards. Draw weight around 60lbs. Took it back out for the first time yesterday. Feels like almost zero resistance now when I draw the bow. And 1st shot at 15 yards, had my pin right on the bullseye, completely flew the target by close to a foot. Took a 2nd shot at 10 yards. Aimed lower. Pretty similar result. Is this type of thing normal when you get a new string? And how would y’all recommend I proceed without losing a zillion arrows trying to re-sight this sucker? submitted by /u/Crash-3306 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3lw87Ds via

When to get higher lbs for recurve bow - beginner

Hi all, I'm (29M) quite new to archery with less than one-year practice -separated by 6 months of nothing due to confinement-. I used to shoot at 20 yards and would manage to sometimes get reasonable groupings. Now I'm back to 10 yards to get my form and accuracy back. I'm shooting a 28 lbs take down recurve bow - quite beginner kinda bow- and some people told me I should get a higher poundage for better accuracy or better flight of arrows (I don't recall exactly). What do you archers think I should be doing? I have been told that my form is very good with my current bow, so I suppose I can handle a higher lbs, but would that be worth the price? Thanks a lot for your help :) submitted by /u/BlackKhajiit [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3lyehmC via

Best Cheap 340/400 Feather Arrows (At Least a Dozen, Preferably)

Just trying to look for some reasonable, cheap 340 or 400 practice arrows with feather fletching for my 55# recurve (I have 31" draw) so that I can avoid breaking my nice (expensive) arrows. Dry fire tool?

So I just bought a Diamond Edge Sb-1 as my first bow. I eventually want to hunt with my brother in law, but I'm a complete newbie to bows. A while back I researched a wrist sling(?) that would allow you to dry fire but stop the string from completely going forward. I live in a townhouse with no space to actually practice with arrows so I was looking for something that'll get my muscles built up. I can't seem to find anything besides the weird rubber string thing I've tried before. Any suggestions? submitted by /u/SinkIntoTheSky [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/31J22f0 via

Require assistance determining what my arrow spine should be. Beginner archer here.

So I just got a recurve bow on Thursday. Unfortunately after my lesson the shop staff present wasn’t very helpful answering my questions. My knowledge so far is my draw length is 29 in, draw weight the shop set my bow at is 26 lb, and my 5 arrows I was given measure 31.5 in. I’m interested in more traditional archery such as wooden shafts I asked what spine arrows I should be shooting and the shop attendant laughed at that question and told me that I didn’t need to know that information right now. Can anyone here help me on suggestions to what arrow spine I should be shooting? submitted by /u/YaboiGibbons [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3lADeO4 via

I need arrows for target recurve archery, I have a 25 lb RC bow too. I looked around for arrows and was confused so fast. Beard affecting accuracy

I surely can't be the only bearded person here. I'm a left handed shooter shooting with a release aid. While I would normally rest my left hand against my chin/cheek, I find myself drawing back and away from my face to keep the string from catching my beard, which is sending my shots wide right- 2 to 3 feet at times from 20 yards. Need help with arrow weight

Everywhere I search I get bombarded with answers of length and spine. I already know my length and spine. I'm trying to find WEIGHT. not a single site can give me an answer. If I'm shooting a 30lbs longbow, what is the max weight I can use in an arrow? My current carbon arrows are 26g and seem to fly up to 100 ft easily. I'm looking for some wooden arrows with turkey feathers to complete the medieval classic look, but the only quality arrows I can find for a reasonably low price are 35 and 38 grams total weight. Where can I find 7mm Outter Diameter Glue-on Nocks Shipped in the USA?

I have some 7mm fiberglass arrows which I keep shooting the Nocks off of. I figured finding glue-on nocks would be easy, however, I can only find them shipping from China. Arrow shaft measurements: Inner diameter: 5mm Outter diameter: 7mm Shaft length: 30in I’m not opposed to push in nocks either, I just am having quite the time trying to find any nocks which work, and won’t take two months to get delivered! I’ve tried my local archery shop, but they, like the rest of the industry specialize in CF arrows and don’t have anything for my measurements. I’m not sure why this is so hard to find, I found arrow tips relatively easy for these arrows, I just need some five cent pieces of plastic! 😂 Thanks in advance everyone! submitted by /u/bryantdl7 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3lxfxGI via

Yeah so I'm looking at two different spine charts here, and one is telling me I should instead be using 400sp (instead of my current 500s), the other is saying 500 is okay and 600 may be an even better choice? Whats the deal?

Im shooting a 35 lb recurve as a novice with a bit of experience. My arrows measure 30" between the nock and the tip. Im currently shooting 500sp arrows but I havent really done any tuning with the bow since I got everything altogether as a gift 6 months ago. This chart is saying I need 400sp arrows. But then this chart says 500 is about right and I could even afford to use something softer. submitted by /u/lookslikeyoureSOL [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3hL6Fe7 via

Damage on limbs

Hi guys I was out today shooting my #55 Satori on a particularly hilly / rocky 3D parkour and unfortunately dinged on of my limbs pretty good on a rock while setting up an angled shot. I actually just noticed the damage when I unstrung it for the way home but now I am kind of worried that the damage will lead to my bow exploding in my face. I figured a field bow should be able to take some punishment but I am not sure. Do you guys think I can still use those limbs or should they be replaced ? Can I put some Epoxy (or other glue) on there to fix that area ? Hi guys, I'm planning to buy an Olympic recurve bow but is there a site where I can buy used risers and limbs that's not eBay or my local craigslist? Help me evaluate the condition of this Hoyt riser?

I was gifted this 23" Hoyt Avalon Plus riser by a family friend who did Olympic archery, but since I've only shot barebow, I don't know enough to assess the quality of an Olympic riser. I know it was probably manufactured in the late 1990s, but besides that I would love for someone to take a look and let me know the condition of the riser and any wear and tear they see! I'm trying to decide if I should keep it and possibly try to get into Olympic archery (and if it's easy to buy limbs for it) or sell it for a reasonable price. Please let me know how much you think this would be worth. From my research I've read that it's a popular riser that's no longer being manufactured and it's not commonly seen for sale. Recurve vs compound - getting in bow shape.

Hi all hope the day finds you well ! I’ve been shooting compound bow a lot all year , and at just over 60 lbs, I can easily shoot 200 arrows in an afternoon of target shooting. That being said I finally put together a recurve for myself , which measures about 44 lbs at 30 inches drawn- and can barely draw and hold a clean anchor once. I’m a big guy, and have lots of compound arrows sent down range this year ( thousands ). My weakness seems to be in my bow arm , not my draw arm. Am I just setting expectations too high starting myself at this draw weight on recurve ? Right now my plan is to take some rest days, because I’m deff overtraining lately. And then continue to work out and improve my bow strength with a combination of drawing my recurve , other excersise and targeted weight lifts, and lighter ( volume wise ) days a few days a week on my compound. Do you guys think upping my compound weight to 70 lbs and dropping my arrow volume will help me get in bow shape for recurve

Why do we shoot in ends of 6 arrows?

Another thread was talking about archery and I ended up doing some diging and found this statement. "All Men under the Age of sixty Years "shall have Bows and Arrows for shooting. Men-Children between Seven "Years and Seventeen shall have a Bow and 2 Shafts. Men about Seventeen "Years of Age shall keep a Bow and 4 Arrows." This is from one of the laws that instutionlised shooting in the UK. The "reason" we shoot longer than shorter distances is because the enemy advanced towards you. May just be hearsay though. So why wouldn't we shoot in ends of 4 since you were required to have 4 arrows? submitted by /u/Azaana [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3juLIET via

Injured my shoulder on my first day shooting

So I bought a Topoint T1 and the guy at the shop said it was set for 30lbs but after looking at other pictures I'm inclined to believe it was higher than that. Anyway first day shooting I went way overboard and shot like 400 arrows and then 2nd day I did a couple hundred and now my shoulder is really sore not in a muscle soreness kind of way like a week and a half later. My question is this, are there any exercises I can do to help this heal faster and to strengthen my bow shoulder for next time. Should I use a lighter bow when I do attempt to shoot again? I've turned my compound down from what it was at when I injured myself, but when I tried to draw the bow back last Sunday to see if it was okay it was such an intense pain I gave up on the spot. Homemade Range

I want to set up my own range in my basement, not anything big, just a singular target that I can practice on. Is 38 feet long enough? And what other things do I need? submitted by /u/BloodDragonSniper [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3hONLTT via

For not shooting for 4 years (I shot for 7 before that) I have to brag and say my two months back seem to be showing promise. I’m going to move back to 40m next week :)

Took me hours, but I finished making my bow glove! I might of went a little crazy with the palm padding 😄 but I made it for my horsebow with a skinny square riser. What do you guys think?

What is the Name of an Arrow That holds darts, etc.

Such as in the Lars Anderson Video: Arrow Launcher I’ve looked to see nothing but that video, and I’m interested in making or buying one, but I’d definitely prefer to buy one. If there isn’t a buying option does anyone know what I could make one with? submitted by /u/Sir_Peseus [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3lrI944 via

Sore legs?

I started shooting recurve 2 days ago and I'm amazed that the most sore thing is the back of my thighs. Is that normal? I put in about a hour and a half each day and I already have a strong back and shoulders. The thumb meat where I hold the riser is a little tender too and of course the part of my arm near the elbow that got slapped a bit when my form collapsed as I tired. I expected those though. submitted by /u/awesomesauce00 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/2Dbf4IU via

Anybody have any info on aluminum recurve bows, particularly the make/model of this one? Bought this at an antique shop years ago and I'm wondering if it's worth getting re-strung.

New to the sub

I had a 20 some odd pound fiberglass recurve when I was a kid. Hadn't thought much about it until recently (as in a couple months). Then, our park - The Ozark Folk Center State Park in Mountain View, Arkansas - brought in a bowyer. I was too busy in my shop, and so I didn't get a chance to visit with him (although he did take an unrelated class from me a couple years ago). Then, about a week ago, I broke away and went to look at his wares... got to shoot a 30# long bow. Quite liked it. Yesterday, I went and shot a 45# longbow. Loved it! Asked how much it was, and that's when problems arose... 1) it was his personal bow, and 2) if I wanted to wait a month, he'd make me one for $900. Way out of my price range for a first bow (since the fiberglass recurve of my youth). But, I had decided I had to have a bow! Shopped Amazon and Etsy and Walmart, but there was jothing that struck just the right note. Watched a lot of videos, and considered making a PVC bow, but impatien

Bow String messed up?

First off I ordered the Galaxy aspire from Lancaster archery, but the string seems to be a tad bit frayed, also the brace height i recorded after stringing it was 9”! The manual suggests 7”- 8”, what should I do??? submitted by /u/Brilliance79 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/2QvfgWl via

Hey, just got the Galaxy Aspire bow but having some troubles with stringing...

So I strung my bow but my brace height is 9” the manual recommends 7-8, also I don’t see much to un-twist. Also my bow string was frayed in some spots as well ( maybe someone can tell me how to upload a picture to Reddit) and one of the intertwined string seems possible broken (????). Anyways I don’t know if I should untwist what little I do have twisted or what, anyways help would be awesome... submitted by /u/Brilliance79 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/31yN62S via

Bohning Multi Fletcher

I am looking into buying a fletching jig and the Bohning Multi Fletcher seems pretty good. The only thing I couldn't find an answer for is the 2-degree insert(s). They are supposed to work with feathers but are there any issues or disadvantages if I use them to fletch vanes? I want my vanes to be 2-degree offset. Guess it should be compatible but better safe than sorry. Thanks! submitted by /u/c3rb [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/32yPMgb via

Crossbow string stopper?

I recently bought my first crossbow, a Barnett TS380. Shoots great, but the string stopper rubber end fell apart after 10 shots and overall just feels really cheap. I took it off and planned on just buying a new set to put on, but I am having trouble finding one that will work. I see very few on any store websites and the ones I see I am not sure if they would fit my crossbow. I figured I'd just buy a different Barnett brand stopper, but the only one I see on their website doesn't list my bow as compatible. I was hoping someone here might have some recommendations. Recurve transitioning into Compound

So, a little less than a decade ago, I had my first Archery lessons at my local range. I wanted to do Compound classes then, but at the time, Recurve classes is what my family could afford. Since then, I’ve done archery on and off. Last year, I bought my first Recurve(a measly 24lbs only) and have been using it whenever I can for practice. My muscle memory is still pretty good and my aim remains decent enough. However, I still have the itch and craving to go Compound. Where I live, the Covid situation isn’t getting any better. But I was hoping, that once it’s over, I’d go for my range’s Compound Classes. Do y’all have any tips you could share? I understand that Compounds are “easier” than Recurve. Recurve too short?

I was sold a 62" OMP recurve by my local archery shop but I'm thinking it's too short. My arm span is 72 inches, which makes my draw length 29 inches. Online references indicate I should be shooting a recurve that's more like 70 inches. Is that true? It's my first bow so I have only tried a few in shops and wouldn't know the difference between the 62 and a 70, but I am having a real problem with consistency other than regularly putting 20% of my shots over the 4 foot backstop at about 55 foot range. Any advice greatly appreciated! submitted by /u/8cuban [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3hy3mqI via

Finally settled enough to get back at it!

Hey everyone! A few years ago I bought my first compound, a Diamond Infinite Edge. It’s a great bow, and I really got the hang of it quickly. I had it all adjusted for me at a shop, and loved it! Life got crazy and I haven’t picked it up in about 3 years! So a few questions. I know I’ll need to adjust my sights, but should I go into a shop for any other adjustments, or should everything relatively be the same aside from some sight adjustments? Second, I know this is a great bow but eventually I will want to advance to a new one. I’m a petite gal, so any recommendations on the next bow advancement? Third, I have some target arrows, but I feel like they’re the bottom line. I’d love to know who is using what, and if they have any brand specific arrows they love that they could recommend! Thanks in advance everyone! submitted by /u/MrsReddRevenge [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/2EzwUFU via

Need some help, long draw length

Hi, im dying to get a bow but my draw length is about 31-31.5. Ive read online that a 25" riser with long limbs would suit me but I'm not sure what to spend my money on. I was thinking maybe the samick Polaris riser but that is 24" would that work? And what are good affordable limbs to get? Open to any suggestions. Thank you submitted by /u/SnooShortcuts6694 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3hzYnps via

if both limbs of a bow are 26# would that mean that the draw weight is 52#? or would the bow just be 26#?

I know it's a stupid question but I'm a bit confused as to whether the draw weight on both limbs are added or if the weight of the entire bow is what's written on the limbs submitted by /u/cypekpl [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3lly7Bn via

anchor point help

So I'm trying to get my sights set, but still working on my shot. I'm finally starting to feel good anchoring my knuckle to my jaw. I've seen folks also have tip of the nose to the string. I have my string at the corner of my mouth, but my nose is too long or im doing something wrong and its tripping me out. Does the tip of my nose need to be touching the string or is it okay to be over a bit? submitted by /u/d3adtreeKay [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/32pgsA6 via
