Khatra

So I am trying to get back into archery with the thumb draw, and thats all well and good. My problem is; what the heck is khatra!?! Is it simply the act of tilting the bow so it’s not at a vertical angle? Or is it completely swinging the bow to the left? Both Malta archery and Wu used both Malta’s seems a lot easier. I just don’t know if it’s right. Thanks in advance! submitted by /u/Client-Gold [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/2JyGmLP via

Question about compound bow maintenance

To keep a long story short, I bought a compound bow (Bowtech Infinite Edge Pro) last year and the planned avenue for using it fell apart. I've recently happened upon a place where I can possibly do some shooting, however the bow has been sitting unused for a bit over a year. It's been stored in a case at room temperature and about 45-50% humidity with little by the way of temperature and humidity variation. I've taken it out here and there to clean, oil and flex the strings, but other than that I haven't been able to do much with it. I haven't fired it since I bought it and they put brand new strings on it. My question is, what are the odds its safe for use? Should it be okay, or should I bring it in for maintenance before using it? submitted by /u/DensetsuNoBaka [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3fRdDOs via

Looking to buy a target compound bow

Like the title says, I'm looking to buy a target compound bow and was comparing a couple of models from different brands. I finally decided to get Hoyt Invicta SVX (along with other equipments)but found reviews saying Hoyt is generally overhyped and now I'm confused on settling what to buy. What's your thought on this? Also, I would love to hear your recommendations. Archery where I live is super expensive so my budget is roughly 2000 excluding import and other taxes. Let me know if this budget offers a good kit. submitted by /u/LemmeKillYa [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3lw3Te0 via

Reccomended Recurve Bow

Hello everyone, hope you are doing well. I was just wondering if any of you have any recommendations for some good recurve bows (preferably takedown). I have an inexpensive fiberglass now right now and was going to buy this from 3rivers: https://www.3riversarchery.com/adult-recurve-bow-kit.html I'm just not sure if the Fleetwood Black Monarch is any good, not many reviews out there. Any input on this would also be appreciated. The November league is officially in the books! Prizes, finishing positions, and whatnot inside!

The Official 2020 Coronavirus League is DONE! May 2021 be everything that this crappy year was not. There were... a lot of suspensions this session. If you can't participate, that's fine, but it kind of sucks to put all this together for everyone and then to have people just not show up. Please let me know if you don't think you'll be able to finish the next session before it starts, so people aren't just shooting against nobody. If we wanted to shoot alone, we could just practice at home. In other news, let's all give a hand to the new League #1 archer, /u/archer_rob ! He's my coach, so someone needs to go beat him next session! Weekly Awards come first! Squeek-er of the Week-er© (patent pending), of course, goes out to... sighhhhh... my opponent (because of course I would give up another Special Prize), /u/drsteezymd ! Can anyone recommend a good archery book.

I know very little but I’m interested in long bow. I might look at recurve and appreciate the advantage of a take down bow but I like the look and tradition of a long bow. I haven’t even looked at arrows but understand they are almost as important as the bow. I’ve drawn a small 25 lb long bow and a couple of larger (longer) bows at 45 and 50 lbs in a store but could really feel the difference that much. I guess a few dry draws don’t count for much. I’ve never fired or even released a bow. Ultimately I’d love to be able to target shoot out to 100yds or more but I may not be able to build the time or strength to get out there. submitted by /u/they-are-all-gone [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/33tgpoq via

Measuring dynamic vs static arrow spine (with realworld testing)

Thought I'd share an interesting finding, with a few prefaces: First, I use a homemade spine tester - all credit to two-jays which I modified to have adjustable arms so that I can measure spine at any length from 26 to 34 inches (If you are asking, 'why would I do this?', read on...). Second, I also buy a lot of gold tip 'blemished' arrows which I tend to break while stump shooting- often enough that I had 14-15 lying around of various lengths. Important to note that 'blemished' arrows often are just that- slightly flawed prints or other factory rejects- but can also include arrows that were rejected due to not meeting spine or length tolerances. Now, if you don't do your own bareshaft testing with the ability to do two things, you are forced to be much more reliant on industry charts and guidelines when selecting arrows, usually with less than satisfactory results in my experience: Those two things are 1) the ability to change point weights - which

Differences between longbow, recurve bow and reflex/deflex bow

Hello everyone, so I've been shooting for many years but only with low poundage bows for larping, using foam-tipped arrows. I now want to get a heavier bow (I'm thinking about 40lbs) and some real arrows, but i'm can't seem to understand what are the main differences between the three types of barebows I've mentionned in the title besides of course the shape. I'd be very much grateful if someone could explain it to me. I read that the longbow is a bit faster, but I'm still not sure to get it all. Also, I saw a lot of reaction videos about the Black Hunter bow (both recurve and longbow) and it seemed great for me, but I wanted to know if you guys had anything to tell me about it :-). Mid-range Recurve for Barebow Target Shooting

Hi all - I've been using a Southwest Archery Ghost 35# bow, and I'm relatively happy with it. Relatively. At some point, I will want to upgrade (perhaps for next summer), but don't have the money for something really fancy. Looking at the prices, it seems like you either go inexpensive/cheap or pretty high/out of my range right now. Are there decent mid-range priced bows that you like? Last year's model? Two (or more) years ago model? Is there a good mid-range upgrade that is worth it? Price range? I would love to find a 'forever' bow but I would be saving for it, so budget would be a consideration. I should mention that I'm not using a plunger (yet), and using a Hoyt super rest. I generally like the poundage, but would like to go with something I can upgrade the limbs on later when it's time. And I know this is kind of a broad question. I have looked around a bit, but like I mentioned above, it seems like things are talked about at the extreme ends

Chicago Bow Shop?

I know this post is a long shot, but figured I’d give it a try since Bow Shops in Chicago seem to resemble politics here in this city. Tell ya what ya want to hear but perform like shit. I got a $1100 dollar Hoyt Nitrux from ‘glissons archery shop’ in Plainfield Illinois a few years back. NEVER GO HERE! I won’t even go into it, just look for some good reviews on his site before going in! That being said, that was not the first shop that dicked me around. Yes I’m newer to archery, yes I picked it up quickly and skillfully. But there has been several shops that want my money, want to do a quick shit job, want to give failing advice so I bring back that money to them time and time again. How are you going to be in this sport, with limited Archery Shops and not try to keep customers around?! Fox Valley archery has been my best bet. Before I get this thing restrung, does anyone have a preferred shop in Chicagoland area? I want one shop to go to, one trusted team, who actually cares and

It's been forever. Where do I start now?

I used to be pretty good at sport archery. I taught NASP. Really that's about all I want to get back into. No need to do anything crazy. I have a daughter now and I'd like to teach her down the road. I just have no clue where to start now. Ive only ever shot a genesis for NASP. What's a good now to start with or should I just go back to the genesis? Buying Your First Recurve Bow (Guide/Advice)

This comes up a lot here, which makes sense. People getting into archery is a good thing. Since recurve bows are more of a "classic" bow, and since their entry cost is lower, they're a popular choice for people new to the sport. Please note that this guide largely applies to adult archers who are fully grown. So you want to buy your first bow, which one should you buy? This is going to sound flippant, but in all honesty you shouldn't buy your first bow . You should borrow or rent it. Take a class, learn to shoot, learn what you like, and what kind of shooting you want to do. It'll save you money in the long run, especially if you move up in draw weight while you're learning. Okay, now that I have that out of the way, I'll actually answer the question by discussing the different characteristics of a recurve, and pointing out bows that fit those characteristics. One piece or takedown? Get a takedown bow **.** One piece bows are beautiful. They feel coo

55#+ hunting Limbs paired with Olympic riser

Would it be possible/advisable to pair a 25" W&W olympic freestyle riser with W&W Black wolf limbs in either 55# or 60#? I currently run two setups, my ATX with 42# hoyt limbs, and my spigarelli with 50# bodnik limbs, I would like to purchase some 55# W&W Black wolf limbs, and potentially later some 60# limbs, and use them with my ATX riser. Is it advisable to use hunting weight limbs with any OF riser? Or would it be better to also purchase the Black wolf riser and run the heavy limbs with that? My concern is mostly with the integrity of the riser, will it be able to handle that kind of weight? Would any Olympic riser? I would really appreciate any input, insight or speculation anyone has to offer. submitted by /u/TheGun5ling3r [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3fRvK71 via

Quick question: does anyone know if there are any women Olympian archers who shoot with short limbs?

Feeling a bit down after being recommended to try shorter limbs. I have it in my mind that most high-level archers shoot 25” risers with medium or long limbs, and haven’t heard of any shooting short limbs. Just wanted to know if there are any high-level competitive archers you know of who shoot with short limbs. I know I’ll end up doing whatever works best for me, but I just don’t want the mindset of the switch (if it’s permanent) to be something like “you can’t compete high-end and be successful with short limbs”. My elderly father just picked up archery again. Need some book recommendations.

Hey everyone, I was wondering if you could suggest some good books for an advanced archer (albeit one who is a little long in the tooth). He's a military history collector and loves collecting and buying almost as much as shooting them himself. I'm looking for a couple of types. I'd be interested in anything related to the history of the bow and its development and usage in war, bow making, and suggestions for a "coffee table" book with glossy pictures that he can display and page through casually. Any help would be really appreciated. I'm sure I could look at reviews on Amazon but I always have better luck by asking communities here on Reddit for this sort of thing. Can any ILF limbs go on Hoyt Formula XI recurve riser? Any other Hoyt riser suggestions?

I was originally going to buy the Alero with Galaxy limbs, but the Alero is no longer available. I had surgery on my shoulder over the summer so will need to build back up to heavier limbs, that's why I decided to go with the Galaxy limbs. They allow me to shoot at 18# and they have been great. However, I was reading you can only use specific limbs for the formula XI or any Formula model? If that's true, what about the Hoyt Grand Prix Xceed riser? I'd also love to hear suggestions for a nice riser that's less trouble than others to tune (I've read more are time consuming to tune), one that I can use with Galaxy limbs in the beginning, and overall nice feel. I may be doing strict barebow, but if not then just targets. Thanks! submitted by /u/koshka09 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3o5rkwq via

Inherited this recurve... worth it?

Hello community! I inherited this recurve bow from my grandfather recently. Don’t know much about it, but I’d like to know if there is any value to it. It is a Colt Grand National. I was able to find a few things out about it. It is stamped with the Hartford, CT manufacturing logo, which I believe means it was made by Wing Archery vs. Ben Pearson. I found an old catalog, and I believe this was from around ‘66 - ‘68. It is a 70” unit. That’s about the extent of what I could find. How often is it safe to practice?

Doing archery was a dream of mine for as long as I can remember, so finally having the opportunity to do so has me very excited :) I want to go to the club every day for 3-4 hours and practice, practice, practice. Considering that previously I haven't done any sports or fitness of any kind, is it a safe and sane approach to learning archery? The only thing that's stopping me from going every day (I started learning 2 weeks ago) so far is possible risk of injury and scary stories from my coach about people who trained nearly 24/7 😅 submitted by /u/glitchednpc [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3le1PqK via

More longbow input...

So I found a crossbow, couldn't find one locally without the 'package', but turns out I like the red dot. Though I'm not liking a crossbow as much as I'd hoped. I like lightweight, always have and moreso as I age. I have what I believe is a decent recurve, the Bear Grizzly old model. Got it for 5 bucks many years ago at a yard sale. Been wanting to try a longbow for a good while and got some input recently on bows around $100. I've been thinking on it some and here's where I'm at now... If I get one, I'd like to get something as good as the Bear Grizzly, generally speaking. So, can that be had for say $200 - $300? The lower the better of course, but keeping in the performance range of the Bear. If not, what is the least expensive range to meet that requirement? What about these 3rivers kits and/or you finish kits or same from another company? I'd rather just get something that is ready to go, but I think I might enjoy doing a build/partial
