Is there an arrow shortage? Specifically Easton Axis Traditionals..

Is there an arrow shortage or is it a supplier issue in the UK? It's been harder to get arrows in the UK in recent months, specifically the popular Easton Traditional arrows haven't been in stock anywhere in the UK for a while now, anyone have any insight? submitted by /u/iam-theworst [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/31dJ1E2 via

Newbie here, interested in traditional bows and instinctive shooting. Where should I start?

I’m ambidextrous, and interested in building a bow that would suit my left/right hand/eye needs. Is that even possible? Or worth doing? Assuming I’m starting off with the basics here, what is an adequate “basic” traditional bow that would suit a 5’10-5’11 sized person? submitted by /u/user123455666 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3qAZLOh via

Recurve string hitting wrist area...

Hi, I just upgraded my 26lb to a 40lb bow, I'm loving it's power but I am having a consistent issue with hitting my wrist with the string every time I full draw, never with half draw, please see: https://imgur.com/sltnRTI I have tried different hand positions, like rotating my wrist away from the strings path but it just feels so unsteady when drawing. I don't feel like I'm holding it majorly wrong, I never encountered this issue with my 26lb so I'm a little confused about what the cause may be. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I am still pretty nooby with archery so perhaps I am just dumb. I believe my brace height is 7.5 inches if that helps, it is a 70" bow, my hand is comfortable on the grip when drawing, it isnt majorly up or down, and looks straight to me, and like i say, rotating it away just leaves me with little control over the bow. Edit: My string is a 70" string, the riser for my new bow is 1" longer than my 26lb

My first compound after about 10 years off. Very excited to be shooting again!

Missing Cable Slide, looking for replacements

Hey all, my friend purchased a compound bow (Bear Limitless from Bass Pro Shops). He lives out of town and had his wife pick it up. When he arrived to shoot with me we noticed he was missing a cable slide. He was going to follow up with Bass pro about replacing the missing slide but life got a head of him etc. I'm trying to help him with this as his christmas gift (and to have another shooting buddy) Should I just pick up any replacement cable slide online or does an OEM part make the difference? Advice for Someone Starting from Scratch?

I have always really been interested in learning how to shoot, but where I live the only people who shoot bows are deer hunters, so I always had the thought that I shouldn’t attempt to learn if I wasn’t going to be a hunter. As I’ve gotten older I’ve gotten braver about going after what I want, so I am planning on buying a recurve in the spring and learning, and I’d truly appreciate any advice on starting or pointers to good learning sources! Is it ok if my Siyah touches the ground?

IDK why but when I try to use the step over method to string my horse bow (Genghis Khan Fiberglass bow from Alibow), I stabilize the siyah on my ankle and the tip always touches the ground. When I bend the bow to string the bow, the siyah is pushed against the ground which kinda makes it easier for me as a leverage. But isn't this bad? Confused by thumb releases

Can anyone shed some light on why thumb releases are held the way that they are? It seems counter intuitive to me. The grip on a thump release is similar to shooting with only fingers. However when shooting without a release the palm is typically towards the face while thumb releases typically have the palm away from the face. Why is this exactly? I am considering switching to a thumb release and am just confused by this difference. It seems more natural to draw with the palm towards the face. But maybe I’m just braised from shooting without a release for years as a kid. submitted by /u/apexevolutionx [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3HcfUjU via

General questions and help needed

Hello all I have in my possession a hoyt ignite (compound bow?) It was left in my attic after storing things for a friend. My questions are. Is it a decent bow if I were to give it a go (in the correct setting obviously). If I were to get rid how much. And if I were to sell is there any law or legislation I need to follow. Left or right?

I’ve been wanting to buy a recurve bow for ages now, and I think this might be the time. But I’m confused, on the website it’s asking me to choose left or right. Im right handed, but I would hold the bow with my left and draw with my right, does that equal to picking right? Also, I’m a bit unsure of which strength to buy (I’m Swedish, therefore the terms aren’t precise). I’m 19, and I don’t have the strongest arms. Which would be best? Also, the length! I’m 5’9, the options go from 60”12 to 62”14. If anyone has any recommendations, I’d highly appreciate it! submitted by /u/belladonna_wits [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3mC5sKs via

Tips for getting a good bow

Hi,I am quite new to archery and also not new to archery if that makes sense,at the beginning of 2021 I had a couple of archery lessons about 3 lessons if I remember correctly and I loved the sport, but I had to leave the sport due to exams and now exams have finished I tried contacting them for more lessons but there archery practice was "questionable" and they fell of the face of the Earth(I can not find them anywhere and it looks like there practice closed). They were the only traditional recurve archery practice in my area so i will have to resort to getting a bow online .I want to get back into the sport so I am thinking of getting a traditional recurve bow or even an olympic recurve bow(I want to use the bow for target practice and the odd competition that appears). In terms of draw weight I was thinking of getting a 30-45 pound draw weight and budgetwise I would say 200$ to 250$ at most.I know it is a shot in the dark and it is best to try a bow then see if you like it

Bow string getting “torn”, okay?

https://imgur.com/a/o7ezvm3 I got this bear archery rant rth combo new, a couple weeks ago. I have around 300 arrows through it. Does this string look okay where it’s getting torn up a little? Another question… it was a 470$ combo at farm and fleet but I got it price matched to 310$ which was Amazon’s price. Is this a good bow to upgrade? Looking to get back into shooting, what bow should I get?

I used to shoot a 60in 40lb recurve bow when I was younger. My draw length is 30.5, I’m 6ft 1. I’m looking to get a take down bow for about $150 just so I can shoot for fun again. Where do I start?

My partner just got me (23F) a bow and some arrows for Christmas. Super sweet and thoughtful, as it allows me to take up yet another physical activity after I've gotten into paddle boarding, bouldering, biking, hiking, weightlifting, and running over the past several years. But I don't even know where to begin. Should I budget for classes, or are there good self-learning resources? How do I find ranges? (I live between Austin and DC/Vienna, if anyone has specific recommendations.) how much should I expect to spend on classes/range access? What kind of gym exercises are helpful for archery? (Thinking about peg boards and push days and cuff rotator exercises for bouldering.) What about equipment maintenance? Is a 30lb bow a good option for a 14 year old boy?

I have a 14 year old brother, and I’m thinking about giving him a 30lb recurve bow. I (19M) have a 45lb compound one and it’s really heavy for him, but he seems interested in archery. Btw he is a skinny kid, about 5’1” tall. I don’t want to give him a very light bow because he’s still growing and I’d like to give him a bow that he could still use for a few years before switching to a heavier one. First bow for son, is this fishing bow all right?

My wife went to a local sporting good store to buy my teenage son his first bow. It will mainly be used for target practice and learning in our backyard. As I’m assembling it, I see it’s a Fin-Finder Sand Shark recurve bow designed for bow fishing. Black eagle arrow selection!

Hey guys I possess a question about black eagle arrow selection.‍ I recently built a 68" ilf barebow setup shooting 40# medium limbs. After measuring my actual draw length at 28", I found my spine to be 0.597. After charting this on black eagles arrow selection chart, it says it recommends a 500 spine rather then a 600 spine. Been shooting 15 years | First time I've seen this...

So this is a bit of a weird one. I just finished making a set of carbon arrows (done it hundreds of times) And was on my second round of sighting in my new compound bow (60lbs) when this happened. The arrow went into the target and poked out the other side. However, the insert and tip kept going into the wood backstop.. It was going fast enough to require a tool to remove it... Has anyone ever seen that before? The arrow has dead stopped and the insert and tip have kept going with most of the momentum. I used hot glue like always and never had an issue. However, this is the first time I've been shooting below 0 degrees (-3c) All the other arrows have been shooting without issue since... https://preview.redd.it/z2a3bwgva4781.jpg?width=405&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=565563b8ad769a42ca6fbc901dad3ec2fcb6c6cb https://preview.redd.it/3fnuk1hva4781.png?width=480&format=png&auto=webp&s=dda58fa4859d0cc855a259db3a43316620a6dc42 https://preview.redd.it/aqpvwwgva4

Arrow recommendation for a 45lb horsebow?

My wife just told me she's getting me a bow for Christmas. My initial reaction was horror, since in a vacuum, who knows what "a bow" might mean, but then she said it came from my browsing history, which filled me with horror for... unrelated reasons. But eventually it came down to, my Amazon browsing history, and it seems I've been mostly looking at various flavors of Asiatic horsebow style bows, with a leaning toward Tatar bows. I can't narrow it down much beyond that, because I've looked at a lot of them. Anyway, since the last thing I want to do is discourage her from trying to find gifts I might like, I'm hoping to figure out the right arrows to shoot with this bow. So, I know that it's a 45lb bow, which is a step up in draw weight from the 35lb vintage fiberglass bow I've been shooting daily for a few months. I know that many will say that 45lbs is too much of a step up, but 35lbs truly is easy, and I can shoot ~100 arrows a d

Hello everyone, I started archery a few months ago, and one of the advice that was given to me was to look at video of olympics archer. I've been getting into woodworking, and wondering if anyone can think of some good archery projects to work on?

So far on my Archery woodworking todo list is: A bow. I've already started on this, but I'm going very slowly, and it's probably going to be terrible. This shit is both difficult and terrifying. Should the string be all sticky by a paperglue-like wax? Do you need to use something on the moving parts?

Hello I've heard you need to wax your string.. it came in something looking like a stiff paperglue container. I have a question, is it normal now that my string is sticky and has small white parts of wax on it? Should I add even more of it to cover the string fully? Because I only did it "in general" for now Second question - I've used Ballistol multi-purpose oil today on my spring airgun. Moving parts etc. It says it can be used on compound materials, skin, a lot of different ones but when I look on my bow, the moving parts are mostly covered in plastic and you cant access the inside wheels etc. Also, should the string that's on the moving wheels at the top and bottom edges of the bow be waxed too? submitted by /u/0Lorefin [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3sntUDi via

UK Beginner looking for advice on a bow

Hi, I'm looking at getting my first bow and want a Turkish style horse bow. The bow I'm interested in is: https://www.amazon.co.uk/AliArchery-Turkish-Horseback-Archery-Traditional/dp/B07ZBCXKDX The problem is: I don't know if it's any good It doesn't seem to give any info on the safe draw length. It only mentions 28", and from measuring (although I know it might not be the most accurate), my draw length from finger tip to finger tip, seems to be around 29" (28 3/4"), so I don't know whether I can even use it? It seems to look very similar to the AliBow Turkish bow (with almost identical specs), and I have emailed them to find out if that's their bow. The only problem I have, is that since I'm in the UK, I'm looking at ~£50 extra for tax/vat/whatnot, and I'd rather stay around or under £100 for my first bow, especially since I'm only looking at getting a 30lbs one. Will only be using the bow indoors/own garden. I'

I'm 66 years old and have been shooting all my life. I shoot targets in my backyard for fun. My last bow, a PSE, broke. I need a new one. Been reading here. Seems my best option is to get a 25" ilf riser and some 62" limbs, 30 pound pull. (Seems I would want 600 spine arrows. This is a secondary issue. I have some Easton XX75 Tribute 1716 aluminum arrows. I fletch, cut, etc my own arrows.) All my tips are 125 grain, I believe. I'm 5'8" tall and I think I have a 27" draw. I don't need anything fancy. I'm thinking of getting this. Any opinions before I pull the trigger? It's an Edge Takedown Recurve. Edit: I don't think The Edge is an ILF bow. Now what do I do???? https://www.3riversarchery.com/the-edge-takedown-recurve-bow.html submitted by /u/dresserisland [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3EeFtyK via

Have been shooting regularly for about a month and I'm not sure if I'm doing it right lol. Do you have some advice for me? (Sorry about the talking and the shaky camera.)

My arrows seem to veer to the left quite frequently and the back end of the arrows wobbles a lot in flight (not sure if that one's normal). It might be caused by me curling my right hand fingers too much, but I'm not sure. I get some straight shots, but a lot of them go left. submitted by /u/ArcticBluebird [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3e4iRXa via

I can't seem to find any recent review on the Mybo Wave X riser compared to other same range riser. Any idea why ?

The vast majority of the review I found on Mybo risers (and by that I mean "not a lot" ) but that all seems to be from 2016 to 2019 and are mostly about the Mybo Elite. I am looking for a beginner/intermediate 23" riser to grow with and after considering the wns motive FX 23" I think I made my mind on the Mybo Wave XS since there not a lot of 23" risers on the market in my price range and the Mybo Wave X would be at the top of my budget since I have to consider taxes, shipping and probably custom fees (I am in Canada). I think the Wave X was released in early 2020 but since then I can't find a lot of reviews apart from the promotional videos from Lancaster and Merlin archery. Anyone having some recent reviews on this riser ? submitted by /u/alebrann [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3mdmq1x via

I got my first bow! Help assembling needed (Adventure 2.0 recurve-October mountain)

I bought a recurve today :) I didn’t get to try it out as it was from a local store and they were mid closing when we came, but it’s here! I’m struggling with assembly though. Based on photos, the logo should be on the side curving out, but it’s on the one curving in. I think I’ve got it, but the screws are on the inside while photos show the outside. Is there anything I should know about this particular bow? The seller also said we can have 3 free shooting hours/a lesson after Christmas Day. Also, can anyone suggest a good beginner target/how to set up an archery area in a back yard? I have shot recurves and compound bows before and done alright but it’s been a good few years. :) submitted by /u/AnonymousEagleThing [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/32e5wsE via

Today I was very clumsy, there was mud and wind and I couldnt put my first arrow at the target before it got dark....(mostly because of clumsiness)

So, I made myself an archery target yesterday...it was too late and it got dark... Today I carried it to a muddy field... it tipped over... I carried it back, made the base heavier and put it on the field... It was windy and I was slippy from all the mud in some parts... Im going back home for a bow and back to the field when I hear - Hey Hey, come here, dad needs help... 30 mins later Im walking through all the mud again... it starts to rain... noooo, ok the rain is small... I'll fire an arrow quickly then go home... Ok first shot, I missed, the arrow went to the left... I was looking for it and finally found IT sticking out with only colorful fins... it slided under some leftover leaves and earth... I turn over and my target is down from the wind again.... End of the shooting... Well, nope, because I managed to quick fix it and it was standing again... Second shot went above... But in a straight line, I knew where to look at... Well, nope, i didnt see the arrow anywhere in that

How I did?

I decided about my forest roleplay idea after I learn how to shoot better - I'll stalk the forest for Corrupted Ents (fallen trees) and shoot them to save the forest

Dark forces corrupt the nature as the war rages across the whole continent.... It even reached the forests of Fael'Anor... Its Rangers need to hunt Ents that failed to resist the villainous spell of the Dark Lord.... (These fallen trees may be wet and more soft to shoot at so it doesnt damage the arrow as much and u dont hurt actuall trees... Also, I need a sword so after a few shots I'll run closer and strike with a sword :P but it needs to get warmer as I'd look too thick and clumsy in all the winter clothes) submitted by /u/violent_luna [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3F81lxe via

Are there any differences in performance and longevity between primitive bows and modern ones?

I'm looking around for a nice quality longbow, and I have a soft spot for old fashioned self bows (I'd specifically like a flatbow, potentially with sinew or snakeskin backing), but I'm wondering how practical they are compared to bows made with modern materials and methods like carbon fiber or fiberglass laminate. I would like to have the best possible shooting performance out of this bow as I can with as much speed, smooth draw and little hand shock as possible. I'm also planning on using this bow my entire life and plan to take into all kinds of environments where it could get quite wet, dry or anything between. So what are the differences, if any? I would assume that self bows are more susceptible to environmental factors and that you'd need to lacquer them, but that shouldn't be a huge deal. submitted by /u/EthanRedOtter [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3yF7y11 via

White serving thread?

Is there any serving material that actually stays white while serving? I have tried Powergrip and Halo. Both get more or less transparent, if you serve them with even moderate tension. As I am not inclined to try any other material out there: any suggestions? I need something in the 0.017 to 0.018 ballpark. submitted by /u/ArmitageCorto [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3IXiADI via

Stan SX3 vs Perfex Thumb Release

Does anyone have experience with these releases? I’m wanting to get a solid performing thumb release with a crisp trigger but can’t seem to find anyone nearby that has one I can try. Any info on these would be greatly appreciated. Or other smooth and crisp thumb release options? Budget is open for quality that will last. Primarily for hunting, but possibly for some 3D shoots as well. submitted by /u/wiredog369 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3yF7xKv via

Some newbie questions?

Posted a form check yesterday and just wanted a little more insight on some comments so I can improve. What's a good amount of release tension? If I had to guess at it mine feels about 4-5lbs if I compare it to some pistols I have. How are y'all correcting for the bow going tilting left/right? I feel like that's the reason I've got too much grip on my bow. About a tension release. How practical is that out of a tree stand/awkward angles etc? Thanks in advance! submitted by /u/aznmistborn [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/32i1G1S via

New crossbow

Just bought my wife a crossbow for xmas. After talking to the sells guy at sportsman's warehouse i upgraded to the ten points Havoc RS 440. I think it's an awesome crossbow but ive only used compound bows. Was this a good buy? submitted by /u/CaptnKenny [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3sjpwFd via

Recurve beginner - accessories?

Hello everyone. I'm a recurve beginner. I bought a Sammik Sage, and I'm pretty happy with it. There are a lot of accessories out there - finger slings, plungers, magnetic rests, weights, silencers, limb savers, etc. What do you recommend getting? What's unnecessary? submitted by /u/TwoWheelHank [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3E8Wjiu via
