Help me find a riser please!

Hello fellow toxophilites. I have an extra set of Samick Sage limbs and I am looking for another riser to fit them. I could just buy a Sage or Spyder or similar riser but the geometry of the riser of my Spyder causes pain in my elbow. I can shoot Asiatic bows with thumb draw no problem so I am looking for a riser that has a smaller, more centered grip. or a left handed riser that i can comfortably grip in my left hand I am aware that the limbs are 40 mm and I would love a riser that would allow ambidextrous shooting (Dream on right?). Surely there is a company that makes risers that will fit one of the most popular takedown recurve bows? I appreciate your assistance in this submitted by /u/PlaidAvacado [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3r4ZbHd via

What are some of the longest draw lengths you can get without it being custom?

I've been in a hiatus from shooting compound bows for about 4 years now, and I'm wanting to get back into it. There has always been an issue for me though... the draw length. I'm 6'9" tall and a bow has never fit me correctly. I was told I'd would need a bow with a 34"-35" draw length, but I'm struggling to find any information on if companies even make bows like that without it being one custom made for someone. My old bow is a cheapo Hoyt, probably from the late 90's I bought from a pawn shop with a 31 inch draw and it never felt comfortable to shoot. My old archery coach even put an extra long (1.5) d-loop to try to give me a decent anchor point. That hardly helped. Any recommendations on bows that have long draw lengths? Or any tips for tall archers? Even if its an older model, I'd be willing to look into it. Just want to shoot again! Thanks in advance. submitted by /u/ARART479 [link] [comments] from newest submissions :

Bow Brands Question.

I've read on here and other places that Bear Archery is a good place to start. I've also read that the Diamond Infite Edge Pro is great as well. My local shop is a Hoyt retailer and I'm wondering where these stack up on the list of beginner bows? I'm looking at compound notes and eventually want to get into some view hunting after some practice. Hinge Release Questions

I’m debating on upgrading to a hinge release this upcoming season and I have a few quick questions. What or some good ones on the cheaper side that you guys would recommend? Is it a lot harder to draw back a bow using only your thumb and index finger (to start) when drawing back 60+ #? How am I supposed to accurately hit a target at long distance consistently with the whole surprise shot aspect if when I wrist strap release my pin is occasionally drifting off the archery target I have for a brief second at 50+ yards? Can these be used for bowhunting or should I just use it as a practice tool for spring and summer shooting then switch back to an index during deer season. I have shot a wrist strap/index release since I first started 8 years ago when I was 11 and I’m nervous about going with the “future” technology but I’m just not happy with my groups at the moment when I go past 40 yards. Too many flyers and variables that make me shoot inconsistent my Any Answers/Opinions/Recomm

[Form] Tips and tricks for speed up shooting sequence

Hello fellow archers! Today i have a question about shooting sequence: i am into competitive recurve and my results are very low (bottom 3 placements in almost every competition). The fact is that my form is supposed to be far from perfection but still acceptable (according to people who checks my form: in our club we don't have a proper coach who follow competitive archers), but the entire execution seems slow , about 20/25 sec. from the beginning and the only think that i have to do is to speed up and let the inconscious doing its job, but i don't know how to do it. It is just about skipping "inner checks" in the sequence? Or it is something else? I'm asking because when i ask clarifications the only answer i receive is "just speed up". I tried to execute the movements faster but i lose the control of the form and the arrows goes everywhere. Can you suggest some exercies i can do? Thank you very much! submitted by /u/JustAnotherSimpleMan [link]

Takedown recurve or one piece?

I'm looking for a beginner bow for target shooting at 35-40#, and a draw length of about 30". Is there any major drawback to a one piece recurve over a takedown? Aesthetically I prefer the look of a one piece but I am wondering whether it's necessarily the best option. I have a borrowed a samick Polaris from my club at the moment, and I'm wondering where to go next. Two days into shooting and would like some advice

Howdy folks, just bought a 50# recurve bow and I'm having a ton of fun with it, I also have an old 25# composite bow that I recieved as an xmas gift years and years back that ive finally started using as well. I'm a pretty large guy and I train powerlifting so I bought what I thought would be an okay starting weight, but now that I've shot it for a couple hours it definitely seems that I was a little ambitious, with no real idea what I'm doing I'm wondering if my poor accuracy is from being brand new, or the heavy draw weight, or apparently I have draw the arrow with my left hand because my brain is trash and decided to have cross dominance with my hands and eyes, or most likely a combination of all three? TLDR; Brand new and will take any advice, but mostly wondering on ways to improve accuracy, currently in my back yard im set up about 20+ feet from a 2x3 foot target and I land about 90% of the shots but with zero consistency. Thanks in advanced for any tips :)

Archery with a back issue?

Long story short version: Was in 2 car accidents, I have a pinched nerve, and 3 bulging discs in my spine(Lumbar section), essentially I can't "feel" my right hand side (Arm and Leg, think of it as when your leg falls asleep) I can do normal stuff, but have to take pain killers and I'm pretty sure I won't be using an 80 pound bow. I've got torn lower back muscles. So basically I'm not as I was when I was doing archery. My daughter wants to get into it (She's oldenough now, where as she wasn't a couple years ago before the accident) And I'd LOVE to be able to shoot with her, but I remember alot of back muscles being used. I sold my compound equipment after the accident, before I rush out and buy all new gear I'm just looking for advice. Am I right in saying it's very back heavy reliance? Would I be better with a compound over a recurve given the cams? Just looking for advice, I just wanna shoot at the range with my daughter, any he

Why do people carry so many arrows while hunting? And why mount on the boa?

I see people carry 5+ arrows when hunting. Why is this? I understand 3. One miss, one hit, one just in case the initial shot didn’t do it. Surely no one is missing several times on the same hunt? Also, why do they mount on the bow? If I have an arrow nocked and I’m carrying my climbing stand on my back, seems like I should have them on my back, and then on my stand once in the tree. Is there a situation in which you need quick and quiet access to a 2nd arrow? I’m a newb so if these questions are stupid, that’s why. Just curious what the benefits are of mounting 5+ arrows on your bow submitted by /u/nesquik8 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3oFXcHS via

Recommendations for leather thumb rings

Id like a leather thumb ring option to go with my other thumb rings. I have the glove that came with the KAYA KTB set, after trimming the fingertips off its pretty enjoyable to use, but I find the leather is pretty cheap/flimsy and the leather pad doesn't go all the way around the thumb, leaving some of it unprotected from the string. Hi all, does a shot arrow need to be a certain distance away, to be deadly? How come it seems that if it's shot at point blank range, it seems less deadly? looking for some help buying my first traditional/historical bow

Hello archers, I'm interested in buying a traditional bow, but I'm not exactly sure what some of the options on one of my selected bows are. for reference, this and this are the bows that I'm looking at purchasing, but I don't know what all the optional horn plating and ornamentation is. I've tried googling around to see what it means but I'm having a hard time finding answers. I'm also not sure what kind of arrows I'll need to get (or if they need to be cut to my draw length like my compound bow) any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you. submitted by /u/Cry_Havok [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3tcAwT4 via

Matthews Z7

Hi all, I got a quick question in regards to my Z7. I bought this beaut fresh off the press in good old 2010. Used the crap out of it for 5yrs and then I moved to the city. I've used it on and off for the last 5yrs but now with all these restrictions I want to get back into it again. Wondering if I should take it in to a shop to get the strings redone and just general tuning? I just don't want to wreck it cause it's been sitting for so long. Ideas for a backstop

I wanna start shooting my compound bow (40Ibs) more but I can't shoot it in my back yard without worrying about losing an arrow. I learned recently about backstops but I wanna know if theres alternatives from buying expensive ones or making a one that is too difficult to move around when needed due to being too heavy for I also want to move it around to shoot longer distances when I feel ready. Does anyone have any suggestions? submitted by /u/megaseahorse123 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/36p8slj via

So I just started taking lessons and beginning my archery journey. I need advice on things to look for when buying a bow.

The range/store near me offers rentals only when taking lessons, but offers range time discounts if you buy a bow from their store. Sounds appealing but I don't want to blind faith trust that they are selling me what I need or not swindling me. I am 6'2" tall if that helps a little with the measurement, I am looking at starting on recurve, I am practicing targeting not hunting, and I don't want to buy a bow that I am going to grow out of too soon if that's possible. What other things do I need to consider when buying what I need to practice? Arrow types? I live in a suburban area so setting up a target in my backyard isn't quite feasible because its only about 20yds depth, so a range seems like the best place to practice. submitted by /u/sora3087 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3oueFTu via

I’m looking for beginner equipment and I have some other questions

So first off I can’t find what the Virginia bow laws are, (I’m not planning on hunting and that’s all I can find on it.) second I’m cross dominant and I’m unsure on how that should be dealt with, I think I could just train my left arm to match my dominant left eye, but I’ve seen stuff with “left handed” and “right handed” bows and was wondering if anyone could find an ambidextrous bow that would work for beginners. But here’s what I’m looking for -Wooden Recurve that’s ambidextrous Aside from that I’m kinda depending on your all’s advice for what to get. Shooting off the shelf much more sensitive to arrow spine?

I guess It makes sense I just haven't found a definitive answer. Is shooting off the shelf way more sensitive to arrow spine? Shooting of the shelf is new for me and the bow is new, is it just a matter of getting used to or do I need arrows better tuned for my bow? I have a 36#, deflex reflex bow, shooting of the shelf with a hair rest. My 500 spine arrows, with 100 grain tip should be just fine according to spine charts but seem over spined when shooting. I am hitting left of where I aim and get worse grouping than with the same arrows on my 30# recurve bow with a plastic arrow rest. A difference might be recurve is cut past center and the other cut at center? Tale of Two Bows: Why does my recurve feel so different?

I have a Southwest Archery Ghost bow, 64" and 35#. I got it because even though I am 5'10" (and a half!), I have a fairly wide wingspan. My GF has my previous bow, a PSE Heritage, 62" and 35#. Her bow also has wider limbs (the taper of the limbs between the two are different). Here's the thing: holding both bows at full draw, hers seems easier to hold. But mine is longer. So shouldn't it be the other way around? Since hers is shorter, I should be overdrawing it more than I can overdraw mine. I thought that was the point of longer bows. So am I just not thinking of this correctly? Is it the difference in manufacturers? submitted by /u/tognor [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3cmElyS via

Looking for binocular recommendations please

Hi all. My daughter shoots S3DA indoor/outdoor and I can't patiently wait to see what she scored, so I'm looking to get a good set of lenses without breaking the bank. I reserve breaking the bank for her bow accessories..haha. I'm thinking something I can find used for not much more than $100. I used a pair of Bushnell Trophy XLT last night at 5 spot practice, and at 20yds in good light I had a nice view of the target. Shot location can be skewed by arrow angle, but it was definitely acceptable. Once outdoor 3D starts I'll be standing 30 yards at minimum from the target, and in varying light conditions. I don't think those lenses will be adequate. I would take a takedown recurve bow as my primary SHTF/bugout weapon

This is the type of opinion that is subject to change. In the near future, deteriorating political, economic, and social circumstances may result in many people having to rely on weapons to obtain food and defend themselves on a regular basis. Alternately, some people desire to leave civilization for a life of self-sufficiency in the wilderness, perhaps temporarily, and will encounter the same challenges. Generally, firearms are the preferred weapons among people who seek to prepare themselves for these events. I have owned and used a wide variety of firearms over many years and own several right now. If I had to pick one weapon to serve as a primary weapon (a full-size weapon intended to be used offensively, such as for hunting, and carried in the hand or by sling as opposed to a secondary weapon, which is complimentary, used defensively and carried on-person and possibly concealed, such as a handgun) I just might prefer my ILF recurve over any kind of rifle or shotgun. I’m making my first bow, where should I get a bowstring and where?

I don’t know anything about bowstrings but since I’m making a basic wood bow for the first time, I was looking for the best value cheap string for a traditional longbow. Does the quality of the string even make a huge difference? submitted by /u/areeb_onsafari [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3opZVER via

Are there any decent archery simulators/video games out there?

So my story is kinda depressing. I was never very good or really interested in any sports when I was growing up, but when I started high school, the school I went to actually had archery as a school sport! I have always been a huge fan of medevil war films and video games, so the idea of being a "real archer" immediately caught my attention and I signed up in my first year. My parents bought me a wooden recurve bow and I started going to practices and competing in the school competitions. I was actually pretty good at it, and I came second in the recurve bow category in my first school competition. Then I started noticing something strange. As time went on, my progress started deteriorating. My arrows were straying further and further from the bull's eye every week, even though I was always shooting from the same distances and never changed my sight settings. I also noticed that the effort needed to draw my bow string back was getting greater and greater, which made n

Finger wraps/tapes vs. gloves/tabs?

Hello All! I had a quick question about finger protection. I couldn't find much information about it online, but does anyone here use wraps on their fingers for protection? Like athletic tape or veterinary tape? I am pretty new to archery, so I am not fully knowledgeable on the ins and outs of finger protection. I was just curious if I wrapped my fingers properly if this was enough protection for them? I much prefer the the feel of the wraps vs tabs/gloves. The bow string feels much better in my actual fingers, and feels a bit more natural. I switched to the tape a few days ago, and I haven't noticed an increase in any pain or tingling numbness, but am curious if this could cause problems long term. I would like to keep the tape as my primary protection if possible, because I like the feeling more. But if it is not a viable option, I will switch back. I found a photo as an example of what I am talking about. submitted by /u/NuggleBuggins [link] [comments] from n
