Southwest Archery Spyder Recurve for Competition?

I'm thirteen (male) and I'm looking for a good wooden recurve bow. About a year ago I shot for a couple months as a beginner at my local club/range, but I had to take a break. I'm looking to get back into archery but I can't rejoin the club anytime soon because of COVID19. So I am looking for a recurve bow I can shoot with in my backyard for the meantime, and i would like one that lasts so I can eventually use it at my club if i decide to join again.

I am interested in the Southwest Archery Spyder 62 inch. I would get a 25lb bow to begin with. (My draw length is shorter than the actual draw length of the bow so hopefully 25lb bow will feel like 20lb for me). I will purchase replacement limbs when i need to upgrade my draw weight.

My question: can a wooden recurve bow like the SWA Spyder be used for modern target competitions? (The bow has screw holes for stabilizer, sight, rest etc. ) Even though i am still unsure whether i will take the competitive archery route, i would still like to get a bow that can be used for recreational for now and competition in the future.

However i don't want to invest a modern target bow as a beginner hence why i am interested in the wooden bow.

Also, if anyone has any other recurve bow suggestions or reviews on the Southwest Spyder I would appreciate it!

TL;DR : Can a beginner wooden recurve bow be used in modern target competitions?

Shibuya vs Axcel vs other top end sights?

So my budget has increased and i decided i'm going for a top-level sight for the target style recurve i'm building. It seems that Shibuya and Axcel are the top end, so for anyone who has experience with either one of them, or preferably both, could you tell me the differences, pros and cons, and which one is the best value? i'm planning on buying the most expensive, so the Axcel Achieve XP - Recurve or the Shibuya Ultima RC PRO Carbon Sight . If there's any other top end sights you think are better, let me know. I want this to be the first and last sight that i ever buy, and price doesn't really matter. Another question, on the Shibuya there's an option for "Single mount" and "Double mount." What do those mean? And lastly, is the sight aperture on either of the sights suitable, or is there better after-market apertures that are better? I'm sort of thinking that is something I should be buying from my local shop so i can actually te...

Question to arrows

Hello! I just started with archery, I joined a club and bought a recurve set "for beginners" (it was on sale and had everything i as a newbie needed) Sadly the arrows I got don't work for me And I don't know anything about arrows. I tried to find out what arrows I needed, but I don't know what spine i need, or how long they are supposed to be also I don't know what tips are allowed for competition (it seems mine are for hunting/3d target shooting) How do I calculate my spine or length? I have a 68" recurve with 24 lbs limbs I think my draw length might be around 25 to 27. What is the difference between "1170" and "16/16" ? I mean, what does the "/" in particular mean? This is actually very confusing I hope someone can help Thank you 🏹🍀 submitted by /u/ViviAliasTobi [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3FCc4Qa via

Help me identify a problem with aiming.

So im trying to learn how to gap shoot, but the problem is, the first step is 'use the tip of the arrow'. Now when I do this, I can already tell before shooting that if I use the tip of the arrow, the shot will go way left, this is obviously before even factoring in the gap above and below the target. I don't have too much trouble grouping in the yellow at 10ms, but the way im 'aiming' is just looking at the target and knowing that I need to shoot a certain distance to the right and a certain distance down. Im not using the arrow tip here...its hard to say exactly what im using as the reference its just a feeling I guess? I wouldn't say its instinctive as im definitely trying to aim I just don't know how im doing it, and I don't think it would hold up as I increase distance so I want to learn how to gap shoot properly. I appreciate having to adjust up or down as thats part of gap shooting, but if im having to compensate right, what could the problem ...
