Another thread was talking about archery and I ended up doing some diging and found this statement.
"All Men under the Age of sixty Years "shall have Bows and Arrows for shooting. Men-Children between Seven "Years and Seventeen shall have a Bow and 2 Shafts. Men about Seventeen "Years of Age shall keep a Bow and 4 Arrows."
This is from one of the laws that instutionlised shooting in the UK. The "reason" we shoot longer than shorter distances is because the enemy advanced towards you. May just be hearsay though. So why wouldn't we shoot in ends of 4 since you were required to have 4 arrows?
