What is lowest practical bow poundage?

The school of hard knocks has taught me to take care of myself. Being a senior citizen has taught me I am not bullet proof. I want to take care of the body I have.

I've been an archer all my life. Recently my backyard bow broke. It was a cheapie, a PSE. So no big deal.

The good thing is, I get to buy a replacement. In order to save my body parts - my fingers, shoulders, and what ever else might take a beating from use, I want to buy the lightest, PRACTCAL bow/arrow set-up commonly available.

My question is, Who sells a traditional style bow with a very light pull poundage, and arrows (or just shafts) to match? The bow that broke was a 30#. My arrows measure 28 inches from the depth of the knock (the radius where the arrow contacts the string), to the end of the arrow if you were to unscrew and remove the point. It doesn't matter to me, long or recurve. I can fletch my own arrows. I normally use aluminum shafts. (Even for my compound bow.) I like to shoot distances of 20 to 35 yards, just because.

Some years ago I saw a used 18 pound wooden longbow in an archery shop and I didn't buy it and now I'm kicking myself.

Anyway. I would like to buy a light weight traditional style bow and arrow set-up that uses standard components. Any help you all could provide would be greatly appreciated. I'm thinking of contacting Lancaster Archery and buying the lightest 3 piece recurve from their catalog and a dozen shafts to match. Thoughts???

Shibuya vs Axcel vs other top end sights?

So my budget has increased and i decided i'm going for a top-level sight for the target style recurve i'm building. It seems that Shibuya and Axcel are the top end, so for anyone who has experience with either one of them, or preferably both, could you tell me the differences, pros and cons, and which one is the best value? i'm planning on buying the most expensive, so the Axcel Achieve XP - Recurve or the Shibuya Ultima RC PRO Carbon Sight . If there's any other top end sights you think are better, let me know. I want this to be the first and last sight that i ever buy, and price doesn't really matter. Another question, on the Shibuya there's an option for "Single mount" and "Double mount." What do those mean? And lastly, is the sight aperture on either of the sights suitable, or is there better after-market apertures that are better? I'm sort of thinking that is something I should be buying from my local shop so i can actually te...

Recurve string hitting wrist area...

Hi, I just upgraded my 26lb to a 40lb bow, I'm loving it's power but I am having a consistent issue with hitting my wrist with the string every time I full draw, never with half draw, please see: https://imgur.com/sltnRTI I have tried different hand positions, like rotating my wrist away from the strings path but it just feels so unsteady when drawing. I don't feel like I'm holding it majorly wrong, I never encountered this issue with my 26lb so I'm a little confused about what the cause may be. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I am still pretty nooby with archery so perhaps I am just dumb. I believe my brace height is 7.5 inches if that helps, it is a 70" bow, my hand is comfortable on the grip when drawing, it isnt majorly up or down, and looks straight to me, and like i say, rotating it away just leaves me with little control over the bow. Edit: My string is a 70" string, the riser for my new bow is 1" longer than my 26lb...

Help me identify a problem with aiming.

So im trying to learn how to gap shoot, but the problem is, the first step is 'use the tip of the arrow'. Now when I do this, I can already tell before shooting that if I use the tip of the arrow, the shot will go way left, this is obviously before even factoring in the gap above and below the target. I don't have too much trouble grouping in the yellow at 10ms, but the way im 'aiming' is just looking at the target and knowing that I need to shoot a certain distance to the right and a certain distance down. Im not using the arrow tip here...its hard to say exactly what im using as the reference its just a feeling I guess? I wouldn't say its instinctive as im definitely trying to aim I just don't know how im doing it, and I don't think it would hold up as I increase distance so I want to learn how to gap shoot properly. I appreciate having to adjust up or down as thats part of gap shooting, but if im having to compensate right, what could the problem ...
