Arrow advice for Black Hunter Takedown Recurve

Hi everyone!

I've been dabbling in some archery for the past month or so and I am really enjoying it! The club I go to focuses mostly on compounds for beginners, which is fine, but I have a bit of a soft spot for recurves and the more traditional side of archery. For this reason, and for financial ones, I've decided my first personal bow will most probably be a recurve, a Black Hunter Takedown (given the overall very positive experiences most people have with it and its price). I will keep shooting a bit with the compound as well and I know that as a beginner, the most important thing is to learn proper form.

For those who don't know anything about the Black Hunter, the main specs for the one I might buy are:

- 60" height / 30 lbs@28" / Max. draw length 31" / Bamboo core / Laminated wood and fibre glass limbs. (My own max. draw length is about 26.5", I'm a woman, about 5'6", or 170cm).

My question to anyone who knows of this bow and especially to those of you who shoot one yourself: what arrows do you normally use with it / would you recommend?

I've spoken to one guy who knows quite a bit about recurves and he recommended carbon arrows with 800 spine and about 100gr tips. The most popular (and most reasonably priced?) carbon arrows I've seen so far are:

- Skylon Archery "Frontier", 33" in length;

- Bearpaw "Pentathlon Bandit", up to 32.5" in length.

Open to suggestions / corrections / anything - just bear in mind I'm a noob, so please don't be too harsh if I've said anything stupid! It's all still very confusing and too many numbers to make sense of. If you need any other info, please let me know.

Thank you for reading and Happy New Year!

Troubles with Thumb Draw...

Hello fellow archers! TLDR: I can't get my arrows to fly straight while using thumb draw. Please help! I started my archery journey for real last year with recurve. I loved it and I have become so much better than when I started. I've been using split finger, Mediterranean draw. My form is good and my arrows always fly straight and stick straight into the target. All I can see of the arrows is nocks and feathers when they're in the target. That's where I want to be. That makes me happy. Thumb draw, however... I have been practicing with it for a few months now. I've been using both Alibow's Mongolian fiberglass bow and their laminated Turkish bows. Both bows are 30# at 28" I have both a leather and plastic thumb rings that fit well. I've been shooting tight groups with thumb draw but my problem that I can't seem to fix on my own and can't learn from videos is that my arrows are always sticking in at an angle. I've tried Khatra, changin...

Shooting 40lb recurve with fingers

I’ve been competing with a 20lb genesis bow for 3 years and just graduated. I am used to using a three finger release and have always done so without a glove. However, i have recently purchased a 40lb recurve which i intend to hunt with but i have found that it hurts my fingers after only maybe 20 arrows. I have a glove but I can’t shoot well with it because it messes up my release (why i never used it with genesis). I had a similar problem to a lesser extent when I started with my genesis but after a while it stopped bothering me. Will it cause any damage to my fingers to continue shooting without a glove? And if so, can you recommend any other options for protecting my fingers or should I just try to make my glove work? submitted by /u/Shmoop-Dog [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3kQK7dh via

Question to arrows

Hello! I just started with archery, I joined a club and bought a recurve set "for beginners" (it was on sale and had everything i as a newbie needed) Sadly the arrows I got don't work for me And I don't know anything about arrows. I tried to find out what arrows I needed, but I don't know what spine i need, or how long they are supposed to be also I don't know what tips are allowed for competition (it seems mine are for hunting/3d target shooting) How do I calculate my spine or length? I have a 68" recurve with 24 lbs limbs I think my draw length might be around 25 to 27. What is the difference between "1170" and "16/16" ? I mean, what does the "/" in particular mean? This is actually very confusing I hope someone can help Thank you 🏹🍀 submitted by /u/ViviAliasTobi [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3FCc4Qa via
