I noticed that in Japanese archery, the index finger of the left hand is pointed toward the target. Why don’t European recurve/longbow styles do this? What is the benefit of doing it?

I noticed that in Japanese archery, the index finger of the left hand is pointed toward the target. Why don’t European recurve/longbow styles do this? What is the benefit of doing it?
