Hey awesome archery community, posted a question about buying a bow and got a ton of helpful advice.
Next question... I am fairly new to archery. I have a large “big box” outdoor store, Sportsman’s Warehouse, and a specialty archery shop. Here is my dilemma. Every time I go into my local archery shop with my beginner diamond bow I sense that I am getting pegged as a beginner. The people in the shop don’t pay much attention or interact with me. They answer questions kind of curtly and it seems to frustrate them that I don’t know more. Maybe the frustration is fair, I have a lot to learn. I’m always working on me and recognize that I perhaps bare some responsibility for the negative interactions... anyways, I don’t like going there.
My local big box outdoor store is great though. The staff will spend a ton of time with me, answer all my questions, direct me to products appropriate for my skill level etc. I love going there, they have a bow shop, techs, and even a range.
Everyone always says to avoid these types of places though, that they really aren’t that competent.
Further, that tends to be the sentiment at the local range too. Most people say avoid the chain and go to the local archery store.
Maybe I’m intimidated, maybe the bigger retailers just have more customer service pressure on their employees, maybe I need to work on my people skills. Just wanted to get an opinion though, does going to a specialty shop really make that much of a difference?
Thanks in advance.
