Horse bows and Asiatic Archery 🏹🀘!!! Here are some helpful links.

Asiatic Archery (horse bows) - Some links to help you get started.

If you’re interested in traditional Asiatic Archery like the Huns, Mongols, Turks, Chinese, Manchu, Korean etc, then I recommend the book "The Way of Archery", which is a translated manual of Gaoying’s Ming archery. Their website and YouTube channel is the go to resource for tutorials and info. (http://www.thewayofarchery.com/tutorials.html)

Armin Hirmer has a great source of info on bow reviews at YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/user/schwihi.

Nomad Warriors make a $100 fiberglass bow that won't break the bank. I recommend affordable fiberglass bows similar to these for beginners before dropping $300 for the laminated bows, especially for a light weight bow you’ll likely grow out of faster than you’d expect. They are stateside so shipping will be quicker. https://www.nomadwarriors.com/store/p3/Fiberglass_Nomad_Horsebow.html

There's also Alibow for GREAT affordable and quality Fiberglass and laminated bows that are good for both beginners and experts. They have great selections also especially for tall people with long drawlengths. Use the promo code “Armin10” for a discount. BUT they ship from China, so shipping could be 2 months+😱, but sooooo worth the waitπŸ€—. https://www.alibowshop.com/fiberglass-bow?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

Korean traditional bows are one of the best bang for your buck bows that you can getπŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘. Great in quality, speed, and are light and compact. They are laminated, not fiberglass, so they will start at minimum $200. And unlike shipping from China that could take MONTHS, shipping from Korea only takes TWO WEEKS!!! Lightning fast in comparison!

There's also Horsebow shop in the USA, more discounted than Koreanbow. https://www.horsebowshop.com

Sarmat Archery is also a great store with quality and affordable goods with decent shipping times. I particularly love their Japanese Hankyu bows. Many people use them for making custom request arrows. https://sarmatarchery.com/

Simsek bows for traditional Turkish archery. https://www.simsekbow.com/

AF Archery also have decent bows that don’t break the bank. They can by found on Amazon and eBay.

Contact Cinnabar Bow for thumbrings and higher-end bows. They carry Vermil Thumb rings, which are the best. https://www.cinnabarbow.com

Vermil Archery and Custom Thumb Rings is good too, but shipping for Vermil takes long due to coming from Thailand (1-2 months). Therefore I recommend ordering instead from Cinnabar Bow (https://www.cinnabarbow.com) to get it within a week or two(if based in the US). Custom thumb rings are also based in the USA, so shipping won’t take as long if you’re stateside. https://www.Vermilarchery.com or https://www.customthumbrings.com First figure out your fit, get a plastic one, and eventually get a METAL thumb ring. It makes a WORLD of difference regarding comfort and smooth release.

If starting thumbdraw, I highly recommend starting light at the 25-35lb range to build up the thumb’s strength and conditioning as well as to better concentrate on correct form and posture without the distraction of strain or pain from being overbowed. ALWAYS use a thumbring or thumb protection especially when starting as a newbie to avoid pain and NERVE DAMAGE. Those who shoot barehanded without a ring are only able to do so from months or years of thumb conditioning. Once you get the hang of it, then you can graduate to something higher or to a laminated bow.

Happy St. Crispin's Day!

Battle of Agincourt From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Part of the Hundred Years' War Date 25 October 1415 (Saint Crispin's Day) Location Azincourt, County of Saint-Pol (now Pas-de-Calais) Result English victory The Battle of Agincourt French: Azincourt was an English victory in the Hundred Years' War. It took place on 25 October 1415 (Saint Crispin's Day) near Azincourt, in northern France.[b] The unexpected English victory against the numerically superior French army boosted English morale and prestige, crippled France and started a new period of English dominance in the war. After several decades of relative peace, the English had resumed the war in 1415 amid the failure of negotiations with the French. In the ensuing campaign, many soldiers died from disease, and the English numbers dwindled; they tried to withdraw to English-held Calais but found their path blocked by a considerably larger French army. Despite the numerical disadvantage, the ba...

New Archers: What information do you need to know, and how do you find it?

One thing that I love about this community compared to other online archery forums is that it's got a good mix of experience. It's also where a lot of new archers seem to come for advice when starting out. That's great! However, it can be frustrating to give good advice without the correct information. Every body is different, and so every archer's setup and starting point is going to be a little different too. Eye dominance: For any shooting sport, it's important to know which eye is dominant because that's the eye that you will naturally aim with. There are several different tests that you can do, but the one that I've found to be most simple is to hold your hands up with your fingers and thumbs extended and overlap them so that they make a triangle. Look at an object in the distance through that triangle. Then you can either close each eye (one at a time) or bring your hands back to your face while continuing to look at the object. The eye that keeps ...

A Historical Defense of Lars Anderson

If you've been on an archery forum in the last few years, you've seen the discussions about Lars Anderson and his speed shooting videos. The comments across the internet about his videos are almost universally negative. You wouldn't believe the hate this guy gets. In a way, it's understandable. In his videos, Lars essentially claims that modern archers have lost many of the techniques that made ancient archers so formidable, and that through his readings of ancient archery manuals, he was able to rediscover some of those techniques. He then demonstrates that by using those techniques, he has become the fastest speed shooter alive today. And oh my god, those claims set the archery world on fire. The amount of hate he got then, and continues to get, is insane. These are VERY bold claims, and it's only natural to be skeptical. However, I find most of his critics to be disingenuous. And through my own readings of the early archery writings, I find that Lars is a lot c...
