I'm shooting an old wood-fiberglass recurve with no sites. Gap shooting for my aiming method. I've noticed that if I anchor at the corner of my mouth with a 3-under grip, my point-on distance is about 25-30 yards. If I anchor below my chin with the string touching the front of my nose (sort of olympic style), my point-on distance goes to about 40 yards, with 3-under grip. Then, if I anchor this same way, but use a split finger grip, my point-on distance bumps up to 50 yards! It feels pretty nice to have different point-on distances from 25 to 50 yards that I can use. It makes my gaps smaller in the between distances.
It's really just two different anchor points, but for the olympic style anchor I switch between 3 under and split. Do you think this is a good idea, or is it going to hurt me in the long run to be switching anchors and grips so much? Should I just pick a single anchor point and stick with it, and learn to compensate for larger gaps? My main goal is target shooting on outdoor courses and at the outdoor range.
