Can anyone shed some light on why thumb releases are held the way that they are? It seems counter intuitive to me. The grip on a thump release is similar to shooting with only fingers. However when shooting without a release the palm is typically towards the face while thumb releases typically have the palm away from the face. Why is this exactly? I am considering switching to a thumb release and am just confused by this difference. It seems more natural to draw with the palm towards the face. But maybe I’m just braised from shooting without a release for years as a kid.
