Like riding a bike?? No sh*t it is.

Quick observation.. I've been a gym rat for decades, so the relationship between consistancy and strength are obvious to me, or so I thought. ie: If you go to the gym for months the weights become easier to lift, so the numbers go up. If you take an extened break, you come back and can't lift as much, etc. Today, I picked up my bow after 2 months off due to injury, and it was just as easy to pull as the last time I shot, not much strength lost at all. So is archery more like riding a bike? Interesteing. Anyone else have expereince like this? submitted by /u/jbonez0666 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3n6mMVk via

I don't think my new bow came with screws?

Hi r/Archery . This is my very first time doing archery, and I just got my first bow. I got the bow from this website. https://www.mandarinduck.net/product/phantom-56-take-recurve-bow-right-handed/ . I just received it, and I was trying to figure out how to assemble it all together. But I do not think it came with screws? I watched tutorials on how to assemble a bow, but they all had materials mine didn't come with. The pictures in that website showed what came with the bow. Do I have to buy a screw myself? How do I know what size it is? I'm very lost and confused. submitted by /u/Traditional_Roof3754 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3o5fTVQ via

Quieting down my old Hoyt Magnatec bow. Left handed

I have shot thousands of arrows through this bow as really like it. The Tec riser can be finicky when replacing rests but have found a setup I like that works. Only issue I have now is the noise. My buddy had a Fred Bear compound that was about 10 years old that came with a cable slide that had a string stop integrated into it. Tried it on my bow and it was immediately silent. Problem is that his is right handed and the cable slide portion is notched differently and causes my cables to rub, so only shot a few times. Cannot find that setup in LH and can’t find a string stop that will work with my bow as it’s not drilled on the rear of the riser the way the newer bows are. Any suggestions on where I could find a string stop that would work on this old girl? submitted by /u/cybug33 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/2KRcc7J via

Arrows not flying straight

My arrows are not flying straight I’m wondering if there’s any thing I can do at home in order to fix this I’m a diy person so I like to try stuff my self first before going for help. Received my bow and the string was completely unraveled/untwisted. Do the strands need to be tightly toghether if I just twist it by hand? It seems to loosen up after I tried to get it tight. Hi guys, I juste wanted you to recommend my newest bow, the Tikana, from Oak ridge. It’s a pretty solid bow and a nice change from traditional recurves due to the fact that the arrow rests directly on your hand. It’s very light and pretty cheap but the handle isn’t great.

Medieval Bowstring

Hi guys, so I am talking about a medieval style bow. Not a modern bow of any sort, or a medieval crossbow. So traditionally during the medieval days, bowstrings were made from linen, hemp, silk, rawhide, vegetable fibers, etc. So say you had a medieval bow from 950 years ago. If you loaded your arrow, pulled the string back, then you fired the bow, how far forward past the normal resting position of the string would it go if at all? Or would it go forward with the arrow and as soon as the string is straight would it stop? If it would have enough energy to carry the string past the strings normal straight resting position, would the center of the string be more forward than closer to the ends of the bow? I am making painted pewter medieval statues and a few of my figures will be of troops that just fired the bow, the arrow has left, and the string is either straightening or going forward past it's normal resting position from the energy. I figured all the experts are here. I do not...

Horse Bow for running the woods

I know almost nothing about bows and I am going to most likely purchase a horse bow for speed shooting, tricks, riding horses etc. I'm wondering what draw weight is best. I know compound bows for hunting are more than 100lbs but they aren't used for speed shooting. I'm a 17y male that lives in a very rural area with horses in my back pasture, but would most likely use the bow to 'goof' around in the woods. P.S. Archery w/ Kids

I started into archery when we were getting ready to have kids. I knew my trigger time was going to fall off and that I could shoot a bow at home. I am at the point where I want to start hunting with it. Now, my oldest is 7 and he is getting into it. He got a PSE Mini Burner for Christmas after taking some archery lessons. First of all, that little bow is pretty solid. I am wondering what all you do with the kids to make it fun. There is a 3D course pretty close by so we will try that out once we get his pins locked in a little better and we get rid of some snow. He is shooting in the basement at 5 and 10 yards every day, but I can see how that will eventually get a little old. Trying to plan ahead. Are there any kind of tournaments or leagues for kids or is it dependent on the shops/ranges nearby? submitted by /u/wesg913 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/2LbsWqg via

Bareshaft tuning conundrum.

I'm currently shooting a 50 pound recurve "The Edge" model from 3 rivers. I have been shooting 32 inch wooden arrows with a 50-55 spine and a 145 grain field point. They fly perfect and I've had no issues. I decided to buy some stiffer shafts after reading an arrow selection chart that recommended a 60-65 spine for the tip weight I'm using and decided to give bareshaft tuning a shot for the first time. Here's where things get weird.... as I'm bareshaft tuning, these stiffer spine arrows end up in a nock left position. I was under the impression a stiffer spine should nock right. I had 3 arrows actually snap in the middle as soon as they hit the target due to the severe nock left angle they ended up in. So my question is, do stiffer spine arrows ever nock left or did I get some mislabeled shafts? submitted by /u/nuclearsummer89 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3o5rwfm via

Brand new, never fired an arrow in my life, I have some questions and concerns, any help would be appreciated.

For Christmas, I got a compound bow and I have no idea what I am doing, I went to youtube and watched a video on set up, measured my wingspan at around 70 inches, and around 36lbs draw weight or so. I am not sure I set it up-right as the holes on the cam are not really descriptive, I find it a bit hard to draw the bow in full. I am 6'ft and roughly 250 pounds(unsure if people need this information or not) https://www.amazon.com/AW-Compound-Adjustable-20-70lbs-Archery/dp/B01FH1BBCM Is what I got, minus the little black nubs on the inner strings/wire. Wondering how to read the cam marks, unsure if I am on slot 28 27, or 26. I am scared to mess with it too much as this is a beast to me and I am worried about loosening the limbs too much and it exploding or something, ATM I have it turned at 6 turns to lower it, worried if I go 7 it will come undone or explode from the tension. I was reading around and I think I may be right-handed but left-eye dominant? When drawing I have trou...

Looking to got mid/top of the line stabilizers, both long rod and side rods and connectors if needed.

I feel like ive seen recently on some people who don't have the actual triangle triple adaptor, and rathery they just have their main longrod stabilizer in front and the two sideways stabilizers to the side, but not connected directly to the long rod, just connected through the bow's frame. But anyway, i'd rather nto spend more than around 500 to 700$ ( at most) but also want stuf that will last me a very very long time, and stuff that is very straight in length and angle so i can use it on my bow vice and know that the bow i'm working on is exactly straight up. I think this is the last thing along with the recurve sights which i already made another post about, but after i figure this out i think i'll have my entire list of everything i need to finally build my bow. i'll release one last video explaining everything and see what everyone has to say and then i'l finally get the order in . Wrong handed bow

Hey all, I just bought myself a compound bow, Bear Archery Gruzer 2 RTS, as a Christmas present. What was sent turned out to be held with one's right hand, meaning it is left handed as far as I have understood. Also the cams say they are set for "RH" so I assume those are wrong as well. Now, should I just keep it? My right shoulder has a posture change from all the decades of using a mouse. Would using a left hander help it or is it all the same? Turkish bow

Hello everyone! I've been shooting recurve for a long time and just got my first Turkish bow. I am very excited about it, but I'm having a surprisingly difficult time finding instructive resources. Does anyone have any advice? Particularly, I'm unsure of how to nock the arrow properly. I imagine that the arrow should face the opposite way (compared to western archery) because it is loaded on the opposite side, but, because there is no concave shelf for the arrow, it seems like it wouldn't be launched in a straight line. Should I hold the bow and rest the arrow in the center of the bow regardless? Do I need to shoot with my thumb? how should I hold the bow so that the arrow can rest on my hand? Do I need to anchor in a different place than usual? Thank you for your help! --Clara edit: terminology submitted by /u/Clara_Bean [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3n2rSSt via

How viable is an indoor 3d range as a business

Is it silly to use an expensive sight on a cheap bow?

I have a Diamond Infinite Edge Pro that I've been shooting for about 4 years. Over time I upgraded the sight a couple of times. However these were all cheaper sights (less than $100) and were none of them were perfect. The first couple were cheap plastic. My most recent one is an SAS micro adjustable sight but I've only now just noticed some flaws in it. The mount its canted in the dovetail so the sight sits ever so slightly at an angle (I resolved this by shoving a piece of thin cardboard between the rail and the mount as i slid it on which was a pain. This seemed to have straightened it out). Also the pins don't seem to sit in a perfect vertical line from each other. My 20 pin looks like its ever so slightly sitting more to the left than my 30. I don't know how to fix that. I bought this sight a couple years ago and I don't know why these flaws are apparent now. Anyways so now I'm ready to stop fooling around and just get the sight I really want which is the...

Beginner here with a dilemma. Looking for some advice.

I'm inclined to call myself a beginner to archery. Although I've been shooting for the last 2 years on and off with a small 18 pound practice target compound bow. Mainly hitting cans and targets with flimsy arrows. I enjoyed it so I stuck with it. But I had no idea about form or anchor points or any of the complexities of archery. This Christmas I was gifted with this bow kit. It's a 30# to 40# longbow. In my immediate experience with it, I find it very hard to maintain full draw for more than 10 seconds. I'm inclined to say that 40lbs is far too much for me (or any beginner). I'm also aware that buying bows off Amazon is a no-go but this was a gift so not much I can do there. For reference, I'm a 5"10 male at a (rather light) weight of 135lbs. So I'm thinking a lighter draw weight would be better for me so I can actually hold the string at full draw and to work on and develop proper form. But that's where I'm conflicted. I can't return...

Single pin sight - Does getting new arrows that fly differently mean you have to completely re-calibrate your single pin sight from scratch?

I am considering getting a Spot Hogg Fast Eddie XL single pin sight. I understand for initial setup you have to (in summary) sight it in at 20 and 60 yards then use their pre-marked yardage tapes, then you're good to go. However, suppose you buy a set of new arrows and they fly slightly differently. Lets say at 20 yards the new arrows consistently land a couple inches little higher than the arrows you used when you initially set up your single pin sight. Do you then have to completely re-do the entire setup process for your sight at 20 and 60 yards and use new tapes etc? Or is there a way to make micro adjustments to re-set your zero at 20 yard for your new arrows at the same time correctly adjusting all other distance, without going through the entire initial setup process all over again? submitted by /u/bn25168 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3rz9Ef2 via

I’m getting into archery and was hoping to find a solid recurve starter kit. When I went for my initial lesson I used a 20 pound recurve bow, not sure on the height. I’m about 5’9 and right handed. I’m hoping to find something that would be ready to shoot and possibly come with some arrows. Any advice would be super appreciated. submitted by /u/esteve101 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/37QHV1q via

Question on skin discolouration at anchor point and where the string touches the side of jaw

Hello, I have started doing olympic style target archery for 3 months now with daily practice. I have dark brown discoloration below my jaw where my anchor point is at for a while, but recently just noticed some brown discoloration on the side of jaw where the string touches and I'm hoping to get some advice from the ladies archer here. Is brown discoloration normal? Is there a way to avoid it without changing anchor point/face position or should I just accept that it's part of being an archer? submitted by /u/vchan_games [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/2WMi44w via

Sight Magnification?

For the target compound shooters, how much difference does adding magnification to your sights make? I'm still getting used to holding my pin somewhere in the middle of the big fat yellow dot of the standard 50m target. My vision is 20/13 and 20/14 (I don't remember which eye is which) if that makes a difference. Does magnification let you see where the rings are or something? submitted by /u/iLikeCatsOnPillows [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3mS8asS via

Another newbie here

Father in law bought me a Keshes takedown recurve bow along with 12 arrows with target points on them. I am already budgeting for some instruction at my local range. Does anyone have suggestions for good resources for a complete noob like me? Books, websites, youtube channels.....? Thanks! submitted by /u/bhambrewer [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/34PkSCt via

What arrows to buy?

Hi, this is my first post on this subreddit. My dad gave me as a present an Oak Ridge bamboo sada and I want to buy some arrows but I don't know the specifications for them. PS the draw weight of the bow is 35 lbs and draw length is 31" submitted by /u/IonAntonescu2 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/2Mftc8d via

Which Sites are Recommended for "Advanced Newbies"?

Hello there fellow archers, I'm newish to archery as a hobby and could use a little advice. When I first decided I wanted to give it a shot (sorry, I had to make that pun), I bought a highly reviewed, newbie-friendly, bow on Amazon. But... Just today, the 50" takedown bow I ordered completely broke, I cracked the handle, tore the bowling, have hairline fractures in both limbs, and probably a few more things. So anyway, I have a couple questions about what sites are recommended for "Advanced Novices" like myself. I'm pretty good, not great, but I do get a lot of enjoyment out of it as a hobby. So here's my questions: Which sites do you recommend for buying a much more reliable bow than the one I found on Amazon. The one from Amazon was rated as 55-60lbs, and since I broke it, it leads me to believe that I'd need a bow that's draw-weight is rated as something like 60-65lbs or 65-70lbs. My wife and I are on a pretty tight budget, so we can't a...

Well I got an awesome Christmas gift

My dad gave me a $500 gift certificate to a local archery shop since I've spoken about wanting to get into archery and into hunting. I'm in search of a compound bow and was wondering for recommendations. I am not limited to the $500 but don't want to go more than $800 for everything. I'm going into this willing to learn, but I'd also like things to look out for. submitted by /u/GetsLostAlot [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3hnskK3 via

First my dad bought me these awesome nocks, then he quickly threw this ground quiver together when he saw me struggling to stick the arrows in the ground. Thanks dad!

How to get pin point accuracy

So I’ve been shooting about 2 months on this cheap 40# recurve from top archery (I shoot instinctively and with a Slavic draw on the right side). I’ve gotten to the point where I can hit what I’m looking at ~95% of the time and can hit some moving targets (like a moving soccer ball). But the question I have is, how do people get so good at shooting small points or targets without sites and only us instinctive aiming? Like I understand that practice makes u perfect but how are some people just insane at instinctive? Is there more to this technique that I’m not understand or something? submitted by /u/koscar661 [link] [comments] from newest submissions : Archery https://ift.tt/3mMd5eI via
