Shooting wood

Are there any arrows that can be safely shot at wood?

I throw axes and knives so already have a solid wooden target and would like to just use that as i get into archery. Is that at all possible in a safe and not terribly inefficient way? Are some arrows better at handling wood than others?

I'm sort of thinking that is something I should be buying from my local shop so i can actually te...
