Newbie question - can I grab arrow by the vane when removing from target?

Hey guys, sorry if this is dumb - tried googling but couldn't find anything. I am shooting my arrows into a block target and finding that they penetrate pretty deep oftentimes, leaving only a few inches to grab onto to remove them. This results in me grabbing them by the vanes on the end.

Is that okay? Wasn't sure if they were totally okay to flex and bend or if it's a big no no to grab them at all. And if that's the case, how do you remove the arrows then?

One thing that I love about this community compared to other online archery forums is that it's got a good mix of experience. It's also where a lot of new archers seem to come for advice when starting out. That's great! However, it can be frustrating to give good advice without the correct information. If you've been on an archery forum in the last few years, you've seen the discussions about Lars Anderson and his speed shooting videos. The comments across the internet about his videos are almost universally negative. You wouldn't believe the hate this guy gets. In a way, it's understandable.
