So, I'm a newbie to archery (I mean, I've shot bows at boy scout camps, but that was in excess of a decade ago now). Why? Quieter and cheaper than shooting rifles (ammo shortage yay!). Please assume I know next to nothing. Yes, I know range safety stuff and I know not to dry fire a bow, but after that I got squat.
- What should I be looking for when buying a bow? I don't need top of the line stuff, but I like decent gear. Would something I find on Amazon be good enough? What draw strength? I'm neither small nor weak, but I know a heavy draw bow isn't good for learning. Not looking to get competitive with this. Thinking a recurve bow right now. Any other equipment I should have on hand?
- I'm left hand dominant, but right eye dominant. This means I shoot rifles right handed, but do most other tasks left handed. Which one gets priority? Do I shoot bows right handed or left? For what it's worth, I'm decently ambidextrous, so I can get on board with shooting either way.
- I'll certainly be looking to get some instruction at some point, but I'll mostly be shooting in my backyard. Any tips on how to set that up? Especially for backstops as I don't want to go hunting around for stray arrows (poison ivy and snakes).
- Any other tips and tricks for a new archer?
Ok, so that was more than a couple, but thank you in advance for anything you can give me.
