So I'm kind of new to archery and thought I'd try fletching a couple of my arrows with feathers instead of plastic vanes. I 3D-print my fletching jigs and I can choose straight, offset or helical and when using plastic vanes I have gone with helical for arrows I completely refletched and straight for pre-built arrows I just repaired one vane on.
However the 3" LW feather vanes I got in the mail today are rather stiff compared to the plastic AAE EP23 vanes I'm used to so I'm not sure helical is even possible with real feathers. Also I read somewhere that LW will spin counterclockwise and RW clockwise. Does this mean I'll get a counterclockwise spin even if I glue them straight or should go for a left offset (or even left helical if possible)?
What's the recommended approach when fletching with real feathers?
EDIT: Found some info online and if understand it correctly straight fletching is not recommended and I should go for left offset or left helical with my LW feather vanes. I will give left helical a go after all.
